Looking for Old Waterbury Article

Hi!
Does anyone have the Chad Waterbury article about why it is ok to squat with your knees past your toes (deep squats)??

I actually saw it in Oxygen mag a while ago, but I thought I may have seen it on this site as well.

Thanks!

Don’t know about that article, but Poliquin answered that question saying something like “what happens to your knees when your walk up the stairs…”. There is no science behind this but it makes sense.

Walking up the stairs bending your knees a few inches doesn’t really translate to full squatting a few hundred pounds.

True, I almost didn’t post that because I realized that fact. Buuut Oly lifters seem to be fine so I’ll just keep squatting the way I do.

Squatting without knees passing your toes is the most overrated guideline to come out of a trainer’s mouth. Poliquin’s correlation is rather weak I admit, but full squatting a few hundred pounds without ample knee flexion, can anyone tell me where all the load is going? Lower back.

This guideline only applies if

  1. you’ve got ankle mobility and calves flexibility issues
2)you’ve got a knee injury that impairs knee-flexion stability
  2. you’re to week to squat with your quads, hence have to shit a lot on buttocks and lowerback to do the job if you intend to got below parallel

Yeah no doubt. I don’t follow the guideline either. Obviously I’m not turning it into sissy squats or anything, but my knees do pass my toes by a little bit, except when I do box squats (which is kind of the point anyways haha).
