I’m looking for a quality iron-free multi-min; any
imput would be appreciated! I have been using a
specific multi-min for about ten years (Twin Lab
MULTI MINERAL CAPS). After reading Lonnie’s
article, I realized these things were a “no go!”
Yesterday, I spent over 30 minutes at The Vitamin
Shoppe trying to find an “iron-free” multi-min that
wasn’t coated with a pharmaceutical glaze (which
blocks absorption). The manager, a knowledgeable
guy, said such product did not exist in his store’s
inventory - and could not be obtained, even by
special order!
Mike, the reason my “knowledgeable” manager didn’t mention
CENTRUM SILVER is because I told him I was specifically
looking for a "multi-mineral,"and that I take my vitamins separately.
I’m actually looking for a hi-potency multi-min formula comparable to
Twin Lab’s, but iron-free! Centrum Silver, Member’s Mark, and Kirkland
Multi-vite/min all have identical label specs.
With “all” due respect to Lonnie, the vite/min doses in Centrum seem to
be “awfully low,” for the most part, (except for D 400 IU and Vitamin A
3500 IU (29% as Beta Carotene)
Of all the brands mentioned so far, GNC’s product seems “clearly” the
best!!! See for yourselves!

Some good ones already mentioned. GNC also makes a more cost-effective product if you don’t need all the bells and whistles of Ultra Mega Gold called Solotron that is available with or without iron.
I kind of thought the same thing Goldberg. I can’t tell any difference in the way I feel if I take a multivitamin or not. Are multi’s that important for people who eat like us? I do like ZMA though.
Country Life Total Mins Iron Free. No pharmaceutical glaze. And yes, the Vitamin Shoppe CAN special order that. Which store do you shop at by the way? Just curious 'cause I work at one.
I don’t think you should rely on a multi, but they’re pretty cheap and they certainly don’t hurt anything.
The only reason I manage to take one is that my wife hands me one every day along with a low-dose aspirin. I had a case of elbow bursitis go septic on me in the Spring and ever since then she feeds me the multi.
Granted that eating plenty of fruits and veggies give you some of you vitamin requirements, they don’t contain nearly the levels they used to. That is one of the reasons with the whole/organic food thing…they are richer in vitamins and minerals.
