my son just turned 14.
plays high school football Oline
weight is about 140 and is about 5/9 in height.
coach says he need to get stronger and add size.
I have been in the gym now for about 2 years… with trail and error i have found what works for me
however i,m 43… not 14
So i need to figure out were to start my son
i don’t want to hurt him or push him to far as he is 14
any ideas on a good solid program for a beginner kid?
will the 5x5 work for him?
any input would be great

This would be an excellent place to start I think.

Also, teach him to do push ups and pullups with his shoulder blades depressed. It will pay off by the time he really pushes heavy weights.

At that age/height/weight he plays HS OL, OR he WANTS to play OL. Regardless, assuming he is on the bench right now, do they not have an in-season lifting program? Any good HS should have practically a year round schedule.

The biggest thing for both of these points is to not hit muscular failure. Grind through some tough reps (after a while of training) if needed, but every rep should always, always be doable.
