I dislike ab specific training as well…they get hit with other stuff ![]()
Ive never tried 5/3/1…or even read up on it…seems really popular here…
^coyotegal is an interesting name. There must be a story behind that?
Cycle 7, week 3 (5/3/1 day)
OHP
125 x 5
140 x 3
155 x 2…meh
145 x 3
135 x 3
145 x 3
135 x 3
135 x 3
1-arm DB press
45 x 3
55 x 3
65 x 3
75 x 2
70 x 3
65 x 5
Plank
+90lbs x 2min 5 sec…boring, until the last 30 seconds
OHP progression is at a snail’s pace for me. Might add some push press to get some overload in there.
Curse you and your planks. I’ll have to do them seriously next time.
How much rest do you take between sets? For that kind of weight, I’ll need at least an hour of recovery ![]()
OHP are one of those lifts that can be slow movers.

C’mon baby…it’s all about the planks. That being said, I doubt I’ll do them, or any other ab stuff, more than once a month.
Rest times are in the 2-3 minute range. You and your flattery ![]()

They were moving OK for a couple of months. The last month has been a flatline. I think I stopped eating as many cheeseburgers. Back to Wendy’s I go.
Cycle 7, week 3
Deads
Mostly singles today working up to…
420 x 1 (target for the day)
445 x 1…PR +15lb
455 x 1…PR +25lb
465 x 4" + swearing
High-squats to pins
330 x 3
380 x 3
390 x 3
425 x 1
435 x 1
… need to lower these 1 pin next time
GHR
5,5,5
I need to grind these plates down to the correct weight. Doing the math is a pain in the ass. 4 plates = 190lbs by the scale I have.
WOW! - congrats on the hugh PRs!
I would be on the ceiling if I could pull that in March.
Great pulling brother. How is it you look so big when we weigh almost the same?

Thanks my man. Well Kareem, I’m 2 inches shorter so has to figure in there somewhere.
Well, if you keep on putting up flattering numbers, then you’ll continued to be flattered ![]()
Holy… crap, on the PRs.
You’ll get the 465 next time, no doubt. You know, because you went up 10 pounds, 10 pounds, 10 pounds. But you can just skip all that next time and make a bigger jump, and the 465 will fly up. You know, you know?
Yeah, you know ![]()
And I’m 5 feet, so I look bigger than you ![]()
Wow. Really nice form. You’ve got that lift down.
You do have a totally different build than Joe. Joe looks like he’s all limbs in his vids, kinda like I look.

Ya know, a form high-five from you is high praise indeed
Thanks.
Still a few things to work on.
If the numbers are going to keep going up, I need more lower body power to get the bar off the floor. More squats.
That was an impressive PR video. I especially enjoyed the screaming. ![]()
Seriously, a 25 lb. PR is ENORMOUS! If that ever happened to me, I’d be jumping up and down with joy.
Thanks Hawt Chocolate.
I tend to go up in small increments. Maybe I will stretch those out a bit and see whahappens
Kimba, men don’t scream…they celebrate. Women scream. OK, we scream…
Cycle 7, week 3
Bench
135 x 5
185 x 3
215 x 1
235 x 1
240 x 1…PR +5lb. Setup was crap. Wobbly.
Bicep tendons are sore. I wonder if I was not flexing my triceps on DLs yesterday. Note to self.
185 - 2 sec pause on chest
5,5,4…bicep tendon squawked hard so stopped there
Pushups x 25
External rotator with DB
3 x 10
Im glad someones dead lifts are going in the right direction.
Nicely done on the bench, and also for backing off before something bad happened.
Sweetie, you need insulation and some heat in that shed. Seeing your breath while lifting can’t be comfortable.
Kimba, actually it’s not so bad one I get a few sets under my belt. At least there is no wind chill factor:) And I wear layers. It was about -8C today. Going down to -12c tomorrow. That’s pretty chilly and a good day to take a break.
I have about 10 bags of insulation that a friend of mine had left over from a building job. The fluorescent fixtures are ready to be installed. If I can get the friggin’ electrician out to connect the power to my house I should be in business.
I thought Nova Scotia’s weather was “just like NYC’s actually”? HAHAH!
Lots of PRs in here - nice!
Bicep tendon squawking?! ew.
