Look Strong, Be Strong

Punch In The Face Factor…my measure of training intensity and/or desire to punch someone in the face (not that I would since I’m Canadian and everyone knows we would just file a formal protest)
Baring that you’d send a strongly worded letter, right?

Or have a stern conversation face to face over a cup of tea and a blueberry scone.

Or start acting passive / aggressive until they get fed up and leave.
Ha…who’s the boss now! That’s right…me!

Move to the south and it’ll change to “Hand me my scatter gun,”

Cycle 4, wk 2
PITFF = 6.5
Found out the funeral for a high-school friend of mine is today. It is too far away for me to attend. Same age as me. He leaves behind 3 youngsters. I have 2. Makes you think about making every day count since you never know when you are going to get fucked over by life.

Bench…I probably shouldn’t have done floor press yesterday. Felt good though.
155 x 3
175 x 3
195 x 6
185 x 5,5,5

Close grip (bit less than shoulder width) incline Smith…hits tris and some upper chest. Both of which need work.
1pps x 5
1pps + 25 x 5,5,5 + drop set of 1pps for 10

Alt. DB curl
30 x 5
40 x 5
50 x 5
55 x 5
40 x 10

some seated calves

Indeed. There are no guarantees. Sorry about your friend. Sucks to have peeps your same age die.

Cycle 4, wk 2 Squats
PITFF = 7.5 (hopefully get this to 8 or better next week)

4th training day in a row. My friggin erectors have been very sore since I did deads + bent over rows in the same session (stupid exercise combination…I’m usually smarter than that) a few days ago. I wasn’t going to train but I’m out of town for a few days so got it done. Worked out OK.

Squats
225 x 3
275 x 3…uh oh, weight is heavy, erectors are loudly complaining.
295 x 8…PR over last week’s 295 x 7 (screwed up my 5/3/1 order last week). Hard set.

Leg press…narrow foot placement, low on plate, no lockout
3pps x 20
4pps x 20…ouch
4pps x 20…OUCH. A few pauses for lactic acid.

leg curl
80 x 5
110 x 5
125 x 5
140 x 7…+2 rep PR

Now, 3 Advil and some pasta + meatballs.

Congrats on the PR, the squat PR, I am ignoring your Leg curl thingy… that must be some sort of Canadian thing right?

You curl seals right?

Yep 20 rep anything will make you want to cry.

Hey c’mon, the leg curl is a legit exercise. But not the seated version…that is ghey.

We tend to use seals more for GPP instead of a sledgehammer and a tire.

So, is the PITFF being high a good thing? I thought if it were high, then stresses of various sorts were getting to you. But yet you want it to be high to lift more weight? I’m confused (which is not unusual).

It’s an aggression measurement. Aggression leads to good lifting.

PITFF is a good thing for lifting. But I would rather not get there because I am stressed out and pissed off…but it helps.

For example, now that things at home are so much better (man, I hope I dont jinx it by saying that) Im not walking around with an easily tapped into reserve of aggression. But, while driving to the gym last week a deer ran into the side of my car. I`m not particularly aggressive by nature but there is always something to get the blood boiling

x2. It does for me anyway. It surprises me how calm some lifters look when they approach the bar even for a max lift.

Im curious as to what I look like on vid. When I get my camera situation figured out (note to wife...please put strap around wrist when using camera) I guess well all find out. Unless I look like an idiot, then I`ll just lie and say my camera is still broken.

I have to disagree. I tkink most of the screaming, ranting and face slapping you see in gyms before max lifts is done for the benefit of others. I’m sure most of the people who train alone don’t go in for that psyching up charade. You can ready yourself mentally without banging your head against a wall. I like to watch Matthias Steiners’s final clean and jerk to win the Gold in Beijing despite losing his wife in a car crash a few months before. That never fails to inspire me.

Jeez-us. After watching that I’ve confirmed that my new mascara really is waterproof.

I am an aggression is better for me lifts guy. I think that comes from sports. I was always ready to tear somebody head off in football.

I have a sytem like that too. It goes from zero to ten and reflects how close the person is to getting a shot of adrenaline to the heart and then being fed feet first through a wood chipper.
What sort of rental rates would you offer for the wood chipper?!? I’ve been around 7.5 with a few of my co-workers lately, and that would help nicely with any troublesome evidence.

x2. Wow. I used to be such a stoic. What’s happened to me?

Man, I love them strappin’ boys.

I may not have been clear
Headbutting the squat rack is not what I’m referring to. I’m not one for external display but people can probably tell when I’m getting ready for may weight or max reps. The part that surprises me is that some lifters you can’t tell.
I’ll include Olympic lifters among those that surprise me with their outward calm.

Cycle 4, Week 3, OHP
PITFF = 7.5. Still feeling a bit distracted.
Weight = 194…this hasn’t moved in a couple of months. I’m trying to get to 200 just because.

BB curls while I waited for the rack. A trainer was doing miserable squats to a high bench. He did DLs later where I was sure his spine was going to shoot out his ass.
50 x 5
60 x 5
70 x 5
80 x 5
90 x 5
100 x 5
110 x 5

OHP
95 x 5
115 x 3
145 x 3…PR +1 rep but damn my pressing is weak. Shoulder about 8/10 today.
135 x 3,3,3,3,3…I’m going to mix in lower rep assistance work
95 x 13
