that is correct

Deadlift

315x5
405x5
495x5
545x5

315x8-315x8

I felt a little weak today but I got my 565x5 pull in so I guess it wasn’t too bad. I was fasted which is probably why. I realized that I d9n’t use my glutes at all when i pull so I did some romanian deads with light weight to really focus on utilizing my glutes. Hopefully this will carry over to my deadlift from the floor.

My son will be training with me leading up to our meet on December 6th so I’ll log his training in here too. He is 13 years old, 5’0’’ tall and 125lbs.

Me:

75x5-40x10

Band Tricep Pushdowns…ss…Barbell Curls
x20ish-45x10ish
x20ish-45x10ish

It was nice training with Blaine on the same schedule. He hasn’t made progress on a novice program in quite a while so I think the move to weekly periodization will be good for him.

Me:
Speed Deadlift:
225 Chainsx5
315 Chainsx2
405 Chainsx2
445 Chainsx2 (fast but not super explosive so I went back to 405)
405 Chainsx2
405 Chainsx2
405 Chainsx2
405 Chainsx2

Barbell Row…ss…Barbell Shrug
305x10-305x20
305x10-305x20
305x5-305x10

Heavy Bag

Blaine didn’t train tonight because his football game was rescheduled.

185+chainsx5
205+chainsx5
225+chainsx4

Pull ups
X8

I felt beat up and weak so I didn’t do too much. Blaine didn’t have a lot of spunk either but he hit a pretty heavy set.

Has to be an awesome feeling training with your son like that. It also looks like he is a strong boy as well for his age and size. Mine is 2 years old right now but he loves going to try and pick up my 80lb Kettlebell which is hilarious. He will grunt and groan going for the greater than 2 x bodyweight deadlift and when he’s tired of trying to pick it up he will “Daddy the ball is too heavy!” and move on to something else. Gives me something to hopefully look forward to in the future if he is interested.

Boys are always interested in the stuff their dads do. Just plant that seed and watch it grow

One thing I learned is that most kids aren’t mature enough to start lifting seriously until they’re about 13 so don’t push him into it too early. I think martial arts is a great base sport for kids because they gain some strength, conditioning and a lot of coordination that they can apply to other sports when they get older. Good luck with your son!

That is hilarious jblues!

We might have talked about this before Loftearmen, but it has always seemed to me like a large percentage of the most successful strength athletes all started when they were 13 or 14. I don’t even know if boys have the hormones before that to really get rolling. Although before that, what they do a lot of the time in places like Russia is actually put them all into gymnastics at a really young age. That provides as good of a strength base as they can get at that age and teaches a general awareness of the body and how it functions, not to mention keeping them flexible. Then in their early teens they usually start focusing more on strength and end up insanely strong. Man I wish I had started a lot sooner lol.

I wish I’d started a lot sooner as well. My dad introduced me to “lifting weights” when I was 12 but it wasn’t anything like the strength training I do now. I’d fuck around with some dumbbells and then do some machines after my karate class. I guess it was better than nothing but my dad was a kickboxer, not a weightlifter, so what he showed me wasn’t all that great.

My dad was the same way with dumbbells. He would do countless curls and walk around the 2 acre yard pumping the dumbbells as he walked along for about an hour. Didn’t really get much from him on the strength training end (of course I was a late bloomer and started when I was 26). He was a naturally strong man who would pick up and move very heavy objects around the house like it was nothing. He knew enough about all sports to help us when we got interested in basketball, football or baseball. My dad is about 6’1" and around 205 but he always just seemed so much bigger than everyone in a room. He has a very tough mind and persona about him (still to this day at 64) to other people but to me he was Daddy.

Killer session. My benches were moving fast, I hit a PR on incline and I got an insane pump from my accessories all while jamming some Pantera  it was the perfect end to a shitty day.

First day back to squatting so you go for a heavish single lol.
