Does anyone have some thoughts on linear vs. conjugated periodization? I was going to commit the next year of my life to a linear scheme, but then I read some articles by Lyle McDonald and Dave Tate who had some strong opinions about it. To sum their protests up, Dave wondered why you’d climb up a mountain and come halfway down again. (The idea that the linear method only trains one strength trait at a time while the others deteriorate.)
you need to read Dave Tate and Louie Simmons’ stuff. I think you’ll find conjugated periodization very effective. IMO it makes a lot more sense when you dig into it and understand the differences and why CP works.

I agree with Major Dan. I’m a huge fan of the conjugate method. I’ve been able to make better progress with CP and it keeps me fresh. I really enjoy being able to train multiple strength qualities simultaneously without fear of burning out. I was out of the gym for about a month or so over the holidays and just recently started back. I’m following a modified westside template similar to Defranco’s WSSB program. Take Major Dan’s advice and read Tate and Simmons.
Good Luck
