props for throwing up the pic Brick. Legs look awesome. Have you always had a decent quad sweep or was it something you had to really focus on?

Thanks. I’ve lost some size since going back to my Men’s Health ways in the past half year or so. Haha.
I’ve never had to figure out how to improve quad sweep. All it took was squats, deadlifts, and lunges. My mom’s side of the family, all have nice quads. If only I could’ve lucked out with a decent sized chest. It’s the one muscle I could never get to “pop”, so to speak.

Not really.
If someone were to start lifting seriously in their late teens or twenties, there will likely be no more appreciable or measurable gains past 30, and gains will most likely stop in the 30s completely. I think sooner. Though a limit is NOT AIMED FOR, there is a limit.
This is nonsense. I would say “bullshit” but I’m trying to be nice.
I know many natural lifters who said they still saw progress into their 30’s and had been lifting since high school.
Alright, so we both think one another are bullshitters.
But I look better.
Your limits have no basis in science.
Please show some scientific support that your limits are set in a world of actual fact and not fantasy.
LOL there’s no way you talk to people in real life the way you do over here.
yerp here we go again.
this forum should be named the worship of professorX, because thats all he seems to care about. you dont give a shit about giving advice or helping others. all you care about is never appearing wrong or mis-informed and talking about how “great” you are every chance you get.
some of the most well know gurus in the bodybuilding science field back up what brick has said. alan aragorn, lyle mcdonald, martin berkhan etc. people like layne norton also agree with this.
no natural has gained 80lb of pure muscle! and untill you post a pick of one that has, your entire argument has no real back up. no natural bodybuilder will ever look like ronnie coleman did, thats a fact.
If you gain 80 pounds of LBM naturally, you’re doing pretty well for yourself. Let’s not forget that.
Yes there is a limit, gains have to stop eventually. Whether it be through physiological processes winding down, the aging process, injuries or some other factor, there will come a point where you stop making progress. We can argue the point of whether there is a maximum amount of LBM the body can sustain naturally, but rightly or wrongly there will be a point where progress stops. And hey even if you think you can be 75 and still gaining mass, one day you’ll be dead and boom there’s your limit reached.
As counter-intuitive as it sounds, a limit or at least the concept of it can also be used in an affirmative manner. It’s only a bad thing if you want it to be. Say you’ve gained 35 pounds of LBM and you’re starting to slow down, knowing or believing that naturally it is possible to gain x amount of LBM can surely be a motivating factor, as well as knowing that there will come a time when aging/injuries/responsibilites will make the gains stop completely so there is no time to waste in pursuit of it. Make the ‘limit’ your goal and THEN try to bust through it. You have got to be a really negative person to hear somebody say ‘you can add 80 pounds of mass to your body if you work hard at it’ and suddenly be discouraged that you can ‘only’ gain 80 pounds.

(Geez, I don’t check in for a whole day, and Pow! 7 pages of BS from a post obviously created to continue a BS argument)
Was there seriously any decent reason to post this thread? In addition to the names Ryan mentioned, there are plenty of other PHDs, MDs, all sorts of folks with real scientific backgrounds, and an interest and history in the sport, who fully support the premises that Brick continually discusses. It’s not like he’s ever claimed that these ideas are carved in stone, merely that so far, as no one has been verified to have surpassed certain points, it’s seen as the current water mark.
Is it so threatening that someone with actual credentials (no need to continually list Brick’s background in every thread) researches stuff constantly, has studied under some of the top names in the field, comes to his direction of thinking (which again is shared by some very well versed and respected SCIENTIFIC MINDS), and because it goes against your personal opinions, you keep pushing the “show me the science” line, as if you are the one on the forums qualified to call others on it.
Dr. Klmezewski has written about the diminishing returns on muscle gains many times in the past. This is an individual who aside from his various degrees, is a retired WNBF Pro, and has coached hundreds, if not thousands of the top competitors in the natural side of the game. Certainly someone with his schooling and experience might be someone to give a bit of credence to his assessment…?
And the constant nonsense obsessing how merely talking about possible limits will sabotage everyone who reads about what has been possible so far… c’mon! What’s the real reason for this noble crusade to save all the newbie trainers all over the world? Do you honestly think that if a young kid goes into the gym, with the determination needed to inflict discomfort to himself, day after day, for years on end, that hearing he may never reach a muscular 300 lbs would deter him?!
I’m certainly all for “passing it on”, and sharing from experience, but I guess if I were the one claiming to have exceeded all recorded statistics of the top athletes in the sport, and people with actual qualifications came along throwing out premises that made me look like I was full of crap, I’d be a little argumentative too. (I can think of no other reason why you get so riled up over something so silly)

Theoretically, according to quantum mechanics a man COULD walk through a wall with a very small, but non-zero probability; however, by human perception, yes…yes, it’s quite impossible, and very safe to say we’ll never see this happen.

I am gonna start spending 4 hours every goddamn day until I walk through a wall.
i guess i will throw my 2 cents in since i have been indirectly brought up a couple of times here,
nobody, and i mean NOBODY, can say that i did not totally give 150% in my training when i was a competitive thrower.
i had access to good nutrition, and good coaching too.
yet, i was a very limited athlete, i qualified for nationals twice, got injured and did not compete at the first one, got CRUSHED in the second one, at the national level, what can i say, i was a boy among men there.
i think positive attitude and hard work will get you far, and despite what you actually achieve it will make you a better person, but no matter what sort of mental games i played with myself, i was not going compete with the top national guys and go on to world/olympic level.

I honestly have no idea at all where all this hatin on Professor X comes from. I mean for fucks sakes, it seems to be the fashionable thing now to say he’s got all kinds of personality disorders!?? (As if you could possibly diagnose someone over the internet)
Pretty much every post from Professor X I’ve ever seen has been reasonable and well-stated. The crowds of you who instantly pick apart everything he posts for very unclear reasons (I can only assume insecurity and jealousy) are the ones that I’m far more disturbed by, to be honest.
From a relatively outside perspective, it’s quite disturbing how some of you behave to another human being.
Steely’s two posts made the most sense in this whole thread (as his posts almost always do). I’m gonna follow in the footsteps of his last post. So bye.
to each his own my friend, everybody is different and responds to things in their own way, but more than one young poster has had your attitude and made similar statements, i wont call them out, dont want anymore trouble than already here, but after a few years, they too got their fill of this guys (x) bs and attitude and started firing back eventually.
i have been here nearly 10 years and it got old day one for me.
but no hard feelings, like i said, not everybody likes me, just some personalities just dont mesh, its very individual.

I didn’t think my quads were non-existant even with the injuries.

pfft, brick easily wins this as his quads can defy gravity, just look at the pic again.

what is BS about X?
at least he provides arguments in his posts
some posters here talk up their background in nutrition and their years training, and then expect not to be questioned about making statements without any evidence. How is that not BS?
I prefer people who put up arguments instead of telling you how long they’ve studied something. A lot of people claim to know everything, including all the small fitness idiots with their youtube channels. Provide some arguments with some logic and evidence in your posts or it is BS.

How’s this for evidence: 60 years of top natural bodybuilders not exceeding the ridiculous, farcical potential of the human body, namely, 80 to 100 pound muscular gains.
Further evidence: pictures I posted of what somewhat lean 275 to 300 pounders.
No one needs a damn degree to see this.
And no one needs a damn degree to write appropriate diets for people in sports or bodybuilding nutrition, considering most don’t have a nutrition degree, such as Stu, Shelby, John Meadows, CT, and probably hundreds of other coaches. Now, for clinical dietetics and to work in nutrition research and science or academia, that’s another ballgame which requires academic accolades. But for what we speak of here: degrees aren’t required!
In he same way, no one needs to be a damn exercise physiology or physical therapist or kinesiologist or biomechanist or PE teacher to be a good bodybuilder or strongman or powerlifter or athlete or whatever!
