Lil Wayne

Prof X,

I think t-pain got really popular after his single “I’m Sprung”

I might be wrong but he was one of the first ones to bring voice synthesizing to the hip/hop table. Since then hes made a bunch of collaborations with big artists like Wayne, Akon, Chris Brown and etc.

When you think of that electronic voice, you think of t-pain. I guess he brought something, “unique”, the lack of a better word, to songs. To a lot of people it sounds good.

i kno fool

it was a joke, i hear his samples on my lil bros club mixes and even some of his actual rapping

i hear that shit and break my bros nose!!!

C-mon man the second one is on point.
I like some of his shit, what can I say

Oh yeah,

Outcast, Gravediggaz, GoddieMob,NAS, Xzbit,Redman…just some more I thought of.

While we’re at it. What is the deal with all the guys using “lil” or “young” before there names. Really?

The thing is, it isn’t unique at all. It wasn’t even unique when Teddy was doing it with Black Street years back. It’s been used by various artists since the late 70’s. The only difference is that the current high school gen is so out of touch with ANYTHING that came before they were born that they think the shit is brand new.

he’s a joke, the only reason ppl still kno who he is, is because all the times he’s had to defend himself for being a “child”

his first two cds-full of clown shit

3 one, he tried to get street, and nobody bought that garbage

he is the best rhymer out there, but his content is not worth the effort of listening

its like,a guy being huge and maxing on the bench at 185

would you respect that guy?,

Hell NO!!

So why respect these lame ass dudes, for basically doing the same thing

Please. Em’s one of the best, definitely in my top 5 that are rapping right now. The guy knows his shit and lives his life. And if he’s not “street”, I’m not sure what is. You motherfuckers have some hardass standards to meet.

And you know who I don’t respect? People who type on message boards like it’s a motherfuckin text message.

What I define as " real" is actually doing everything you talk about in a song. I dont think he’s ever cut anyone’s head off or any of the bullshit he blabbers about in his songs.Which makes his songs meaningless, he still is a badass rhymer tho. But content aint there, at all. Other than “Rock Bottom” that was basically it!

Dude, the thing is, no one ever thought he was really cutting people’s heads off…well, except for STAN. He thought all of that shit was real.

There’s a big difference between rapping about who got shot when no one really did…and rapping about how you are going to force someone to eat Skittles until their head explodes and them dump the body in a river.

Shock rap was known to be exaggeration from the start.

Maybe I’m getting old or something but I just don’t get his music. But something I really don’t understand is chicks that get wet for this guy! I used to be friendly with this hot South American chick and she’d never shut up about wanting to lick Lil Wayne lollipop! Bizarre…

so, he has no credibilty at all and is the definition of clown. He is basically Weird Al, right?

Exactly. How can you recognize mountains when you have not seen valleys.

I thought Lil Wayne was better with the Hot Boys… but I was also in like 8th grade when that shit came out so maybe it actually sucked and I didn’t realize it.

Not a fan of Wayne but you gotta respect a dude that puts out like 500 songs a year and makes a billion dollars.

I hate the whole “today’s rap is garbage… good old days yeahhhhh!!!” garbage. The same percentage of guys sucked back in the day as they do now. Plenty of guys out right now killing it:

If you don’t think Eminem is in the top 5 (or at least top 10) of all time, you’re on crack and have never heard this:

or his verse on this song:

Chamillionaire can kill it:

There’s plenty of good underground though:

Weird Al is corny. I think Eminem’s album sales alone prove he isn’t some one schtick artist. Some of his most memorable songs are actually “motivational” to some degree (like Lose Yourself…which is still one of his most downloaded songs). Of all of the artists to pick on, I am not sure why you chose Em.

As far as T-Pain is concerned, on that song “I’m on a boat” that he did with The Lonely Island, does he just have a sense of humor, or ya thinking they are openly mocking him and he doesn’t quite get it ?

You do know that Johnny Cash never shot his woman down and went to Juarez, right?

And yet by country standards, you’re not going to find a motherfucker that is more “real” or sang about real things than he.

Like X said, to a degree, yes, it’s for shock value. However, I think his arrest record has shown that he’s not some Princeton kid pretending to be hard- he comes from the ghetto and raps alot about his life.

I think being white holds em back. I doubt he’s allowed to really be himself and express himself in the way he grew up listening to rap. He would be condemned if he says certain things that are a staple in the hardcore rap community. Despite all this he’s still had some great songz. I just wish he would ghost write or something.

Please I have to hear who are all these rappers that do everything they say in their songs? Or do you consider smoking blunts on the corner, being a drug kingpin?

That’s the other thing. If you really look at the number of bodies these rappers have on them, I think you’d see that… well, few and far between have dropped anyone.

The guys who really stack up the bodies are either in jail or dead, because that’s how things go. The rappers are, for the most part, the ones who’ve escaped from the ghetto through music.

I’m not saying they’re not hard- some of them, like Young Buck (stabbing that dude at the award show), Em (pistol whipping that guy), TI (assault weapons incident), and Saigon (assaulting Prodigy) are definitely tough guys with a proclivity towards violence… and forget guys like Suge Knight.

However, they’re a fraction of the guys who rap about guns and drugs.

Plus Saigon rolls deep. His boys hung Johnny Drama off a 4th-floor balcony.

Pretty sure he just has a sense of humor, because that song is hilarious and awesome.
