That is some damn fine pressing. Are you considering doing Nationals?[/quote]
Thanks Joe, it’s coming together. Nats - not sure yet, I will definitely be there, but still planning on doing the Atmore meet at this time. Nats is always a big meet, and this year they push it out to 3 days…Last time I lifted at Nats, squatted at 9 am and didn’t DL until 9 pm, it was too long a day for me, but hopefully the 3 day format will alleviate that issue.
Wed 2/16/11 / Cardio, it was just so nice out I had to jog my 1.5 miles outside
Thurs 2/17/11 / ME Lower
Squat into chain 1" above parallel
bar x 10
110 x 5
set chain up as high as they went, was suppose to go 2" above parallel, but it was closer to an 1" above
150 x 3
suit on, straps down
240 x 1
290 x 1
330 x 1
straps up, not tight
360 x1
380 x 1
kneewraps
410 x 1
450 x 1 PR
490 x 1 - PR - not perfect but I handled the weight, most I’ve ever had on my back !!!
Rev Band DL
Centurion on, legs hiked up / old greens choked from top pin
245 x 1
335 x1
405 x 1
445 x 1, losing steam
Then it took about 10 minutes to get the dang suit off…pain, but no tears
nlmain, yes, it’s your first , have your opening #'s ready, open light! Have fun and then try to beat your own PR’s.
Yes, I did the ice bath, wasn’t near as bad as I thought, except it took about 30 minutes after I got out before I could feel my toes…but hip soreness is almost gone.
Here’s a compilation of last nite’s last heavy squats prior to the meet. One thing I noticed, 380# I just walked up and squatted it without a back spot…a couple weeks ago, I would have never had done that!
Umm. What’s with taking so long to get outta the suit? It takes me a long time to get in mine, but next to no time to get out. If it’s 10 minutes out for you, how long to get in?!
I got “trapped” in a bench shirt once. Got it on, decided it was too tight, and couldn’t get it off my biceps. My hands were turning blue. Kinda scared me.

after my squatting, I deadlifted, to get to the bar, I have to hike the legs way up my thighs…and let’s just say I have very squishable upper thighs, so getting the suit back over them is more than a little painful. We actually have to get it off my hips, turned inside out and I sit on the bench and someone pulls it off, unfortunately along with some skin…all in the name of big weight, right?
getting it on isn’t an issue, we wrap the straps around the bar and I wiggle into it.

I tried that once. Hanging the straps from a bar with me in the suit. And I proceeded to rip out stitching. Hmm.
Don’t feel bad about the thighage. I carry most of my bodyfat on my inner thighs. And it all hangs out in a suit. I’m actually really sensitive about it and had a real hangup about it when I first started squatting/DLing geared. So I totally get you.

was travelling to Arlington Va - Arlington National Cemetery to bury my grandfather of 96 years with full military honors this week. He served in the US Army for 34 years, retired Colonel. The reverence, respect, and humility of the service was awesome. Horse pulled caisson, 3 platoons, full band and 18 gun salute. That’s the way to honor those serving our country.

I just wanted to pass along some feedback on my last squat here…I did yell, I have a tendency to do that when it gets heavy… #1) try real hard NOT to do that, you lose your air and must likely some tightness, must stay tight under heavy weights
#2) When it gets hard, chest up and push the head into the bar…
wow! that is an impressive service record your grandpa had. I’m sorry for your loss, but it sounds like he was sent off with style and serious respect, kinda gives you chills.
Wow 96 years old, amazing. My mom has a friend who’s grandmom is 99 now. Those ages have my respect, they definetely know how to take care of themselves.
I like that you critique yourself, and in my last squat vid, my spot told me the same thing, to keep my head up as well, aka head back in the bar, and it helped me a lot.
