I’m doing Madcow’s 5x5 program, and im on the second week. So that means im 10 pounds away from my 5 rep max. When I lifted today, I struggled getting the weight up for all my final lifts of my 3 major lifts. Is this a problem, or is it normal to struggle when your 10 pounds under your 5 rep max?
you have to push hard
every time I lift 5x5 its hard every set
also make your eating right and getting sleep
Maybe you were a bit too ambitious with the weight. One option is lowering the poundage a bit and starting from there, that way you’ll have built up some steam by the time you get to your previous sticking points.
Just a thought.
I actually found out that form really does help tremendously.
Also, being tired or having slept 12 hours makes a world of difference.
start a bit conservative if you can. Also, it helps to have fractional plates for that program if you want to be exact on the ramping sets without rounding up 5lbs or down 5 lbs.
Good luck!!!
Hey some days your on and some days your not. Make sure you have a good spotter with you to give you a hand and you dont have to be glued to a set weight you can adjust based on how you feel.
I dont really like a 5x5 plan b/c for me it just isnt enough. I would rather do a 8x3-4 or 6x6-8 for my major lifts. But going back to you, your plain isnt set in stone and you can adjust some things but that dosent mean you take it easy you still need to push your self to the max.

That would be my thought as well. First set of 5x5s I feel like I under shoot the weight almost every time. By the last one I know if I got it right or not.
