Lifting with the Stricks

Thanks, soldog. She actually slipped up, last night, and told me she was having fun. Hmmmm… If addiction sets in before boredom or injury, we will be running at full speed.

Accolade passed along She finds it humorous that so many folks are pulling for her. As is human nature, though, it has a positive effect.

Rows looked great, and good on you for helping the wife.

Thanks Joe. She is easy and fun to help. Heck, drop the “to help” and it is still true.
Yeah…I said it…lol.

A family that lifts together stays together.

I already trademarked it " Lady Strick Runs the Show" !!! And when the arm wrestling match breaks out…I am throwing down large on a Lady Strick win!!!

Nice traing,
and Mrs strick is kicking some ass.
sounds like fun.

Bulldog, it can only help. Now, to see if the kids join in a few years from now.

OG, I would put money on her too. I think everyone would accuse me of throwing the match, though. Give her time

Kevin, it is definitely fun. I always liked having her in there with me anyway. Now we get to suffer together…lol.

She says her ass, outer thighs and lower back and chest are sore. Guess she must have done it right. She says that it is a good sore, though.

Have you found out if that weight bench will hold both of you at the same time??

Lol…actually, we haven’t. But we do know that the power rack can be used for more than just lifting.

Shoulders -

Once again, too much time between sets, but I am able to up the weight a bit.
Also, my left shoulder is just going down hill. Constantly nags, even when I am not lifting. Has this weird poppy-grindy sound/feel (not painful) as I rotate through reps. I am about ready to have it surgically removed. I will need some sort of power coupler to keep my arm from falling off, though.
I think that the 3 days of upper body work per week are just killing it. It gets heavy use every workout. SO, I think I am going to cut an upper body day out and try…

Sunday - Chest/Back
Tuesday - Legs (light squats and deads)…I hope I can pull this off
Thursday - Shoulders/Arms

We shall see. Maybe I can just get my bicep tendon replaced with some sort of kevlar cable!?

Military Press - 5x5
barx20
95x10
135x5
155x5
185x5x5 - a bit light, but I wanted to give myself room to work into the gut wrenching sets.

BB Shrugs
225x20
315x10
365x10x3 - +50# from previous
315x15

1 Arm DB Laterals
35x10
40x10
45x8x2

Reverse Flyes
40x10x4

2 Arm DB Laterals
40x8x2

I dropped forward raises, along with the BNP, because of the shoulder.

Mrs. Strick’s Workout

Seated DB Press
20x8 - +5# from last workout
20x7
20x6

Seated Rows
60x8x2
70x8 - +10# from last workout

Pushdowns
40x8x3 - +4 reps from last workout

E-Z Curls
40x8x3 - +5# from last workout - these were grinders

Squats - major form issues as the weight went up. We won’t get near these weights again for a while
barx5x2 - to get the soreness out
95x3
115x1
barx10

She continues to progress and impress. We now have a pretty good handle on working weights for each exercise. Also, we have some baseline training 1RM. Though not absolute 1RM, they are close enough…

Bench - 90#
Deadlift - 135#
Squat - 115#

I can already see improvement in her work, both in form and how her body is responding. There was no intensity in her 1st few workouts, as though her body had no idea what to do with this particular type of stress/load. That was to be expected. Tonight, she looked like she was working out and her body was catching on.
On a side, her legs are killing her…muahahahahahaha. She is finding it annoying, but kind of likes it. The stairs are presenting a problem, though.

She is doing great.

So cool you and the wife are training together. Good example for the kids. When my shoulder was bugging me a while back I switch to close grip benching and close grip MP. Seemed to help but my weights dropped. Also, I started to do a lot of chin ups. Shoulder is great now.

Steve, the bench doesn’t seem to affect it as much as the MPs. But my MP grip isn’t really that wide. The pain is all through the shoulder joint. I HOPE that it is just radiating from the bicep tendon and not something new/worse. Of course, it could be that I am altering my movement/focus (subconsciously) to try to avoid the discomfort and, by extension, putting odd stress on the joint.
My hope is that the lighter MPs, for a few weeks, as well as dropping BNP and Fwd. Raises, will give it some recovery time. Also, one less upper body day can’t hurt.

The lifting duet is fun. She is eager to learn and progress and has no issue taking instruction. It helps that we have a good relationship not burdened with ego and selfishness.
I really think she is going to surprise herself with the progress she makes. She is already progressing, though not keenly aware of it.
Also, according to the body frame type thingy (wrapping your off hand around your wrist. You know, the one that says I have a medium frame.), she has a large frame. I think it is more medium. Either way, it is a good frame for some size and feats of strength.

I wonder if doing db MP for a bit may help. I bet Meat or Pete would have some good suggestions. Never let your wife hear you say she has a ‘large frame’.

Lol…SHE is the one who said “large frame”. I was just passing it along.

Believe it or not, I was in the middle of a seated DB press when this issue started. Pressing the weight up and I felt something shift. Not really painful, at the time, but startling.

“Large frame” may explain a lot. Take it from someone who really, really had to ease into squats and deadlifts, your wife is making surprising progress. Dead of 135 is quite a bit for someone who’s never lifted before. If you’re sure her form is good, ok.

She actually likes legs DOMS? Uh-oh! You’ve created a monster!

So fun for me to read up on your wife’s progress. It’s just awesome. Keep posting her logs. I’m certainly reading. It’s really great that you’re focusing so much on her form. Better to get that right from the start.

About the shoulder . . . I actually think it was OHPing that caused my problems to start. Probably a slight tear that just got exacerbated over time until . . . well, it didn’t go well as you know. So take it easy.

Its going to be interesting watch your wife’s progress.

Yep, curls. Or so I’ve been told.

Cav - she fussed at me tonight, after the workout, because her legs weren’t “wobbly”, like the workout before…lol.

Snap, Bulldog, I will definitely continue posting them. Hell, it is the most interesting thing about my log. And her progress is already much better than mine.

That’s right, Elaikases…curls.

Chest and Back…the new plan

Was really hurting today. Not sure what was going on, but i just ran out of gas early and couldn’t ever comlpetely catch my wind.

Mrs. LittleStrick’s Workout

She continues to amaze me and is really progressing. She has a great attitude and is making leaps in form and strength. She even griped that her legs weren’t wobbly after today’s deads. I think she is really getting into it. Except curls…apparently that runs in the family.

Bench
barx8
55x8
65x8
75x5 - 1 finger assist on the last rep

Lat Pulls
70x8
80x8x2 - PR +2 Reps

Deadlift
95x8
105x8
115x8
125x8 (last time she got 135x3 with bad form. Today, she had good form 1st to last…and had more reps in her. Will go to 135# next workout.)

E-Z Curls
40x8x3 - will go up 5# next workout

Pushdowns
40x8x3

She got all her reps except on the last set of bench. In all fairness, she was not supposed to go to 75# today, but the 65# went up with multiple reps to spare. I am thrilled with her progress. She is less thrilled. But, she never thinks what she does is good enough. That may work to her benefit in the long run.

Oh…she wanted to to add to the log…I scowled at her and she threw a glove at me. When she got the 125x8, on deads, I gave her a scowl, because she had to be playing possum, last workout. She loves my scowl, but, for some reason, thought tossing a glove at me would be an appropriate accolade.
