Lifting with the Stricks

More kitten pics…

Hmmmm…I can’t see them. I will try again later.

Encourage your wife to post a log. Either here or in the PW section.

Good workouts as usual, Strick.

I wish I could see the kitten pics, but only the first one shows up for me.

It’s cool that the little lady works out with you. You know the saying…The family that plays together, stays together!!!

Actually, she is only marginally okay with me posting her workout here. She feels like she is lifting too little weight. I have to remind her that a) everyone starts somewhere and b) the weights will go up, as she gets stronger and just gets used to the movements.

As soon as the pics start to show up, I will post more.

As for the kittens, they are all growing like weeds, except one. She wasn’t gaining weight, so we are supplementing her nursing with kitten formula. She has started to gain a little, but still not as fast as the others.

Rug, it is very cool. And she shows no signs of getting tired of it. I think the battle is half won…fingers crossed.

Oh, I forgot to mention. I am down 2.4# from last week. It appears that the momentary blip was the creatine, but I am back on the other side of it.

Thats great about your wife, and the weight loss starting back up.

Wobbly legs mean you squatted right.

Yeah Joe, she squatted right. Not deep enough, but we are working on that.

Okay…serious bidness. Wife wants a little more size but definitely wants to get stronger, as she is feeling far to weak to have her workouts posted.

My thought is simply, for the time being, to up the weights she is using and drop her rep range to 5-8, with 3-4 sets, depending on exercise. This is after she finishes her 2nd full week of working out (7 workouts). I want to keep her on the full body 3 times a week, for now. She is only 34, so is a Spring chicken. Also, she has never done resistance training before. So I think there is the potential for good initial progress.

Anyone out there have any advice? Thoughts on a good program? Anything will benefit her, given where we are starting. But I am hoping to get some input from females who have walked this path…which would be every female on here

I don’t mean to be a pest, but I’ve been stalking this thread, hoping for more cute kitten pics…

And also a big congrats to your wife for taking the first, and hardest step. Technically, she has until she turns 35 before she “needs” to post her results.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to go all apeshitt on you. I’d just read several consecutive posts about PL types fretting over losing muscle when they diet, and it just ain’t so. And since you seem to be losing nicely, I’ll just shut up now and applaud your success from the corner.

Woot!

You weren’t being a pest…lol. Part of my phobia is because of past experiences. I normally lift for strength/size or a try to lose weight. I have never tried to do both at the ame time.

Both times I lost weight, I went nuts and did 2-4 hours of cardio a day, light resistance training and severely reduced caloric intake (for me…1900-2000 cal/day). Both time resulted in the desired weight loss, but also a significant amount dimunition of muscle size. I am just trying to be smart this time around.

PG, I will try again…

Wow! It worked!

Yet another…

Last one for now…

Awesome, thanks!

Cats are great. Except for perky vs. floppy ears, domestic cats are exactly like the wild version. I love that.

Some random info: cheetahs are the most tractable (human-friendly) of the wild cats; the San Diego Zoo has “ambassador” cheetahs that are practically tame, they have a permanent dog companion that helps to keep them calm when humans are around. I was told that tigers, on the other hand, look at everything as potential prey.

Another awesome Cheetah fact : scientists have measured them accelerating to 64-65 mph in just 3 seconds.

Interesting stuff, gents… I love cheetahs. Actually, big cats in general are awesome. PG, I will make sure to keep the kitten progress pics coming.

There is a lot of form/technique work that needs to be done, but she takes instruction well and is coming along nicely. Like most folks, major form breaks mainly come wwhen under great stress. I put her under some stress tonight and she didn’t flinch. I was very happy to see her do a deadlift triple at BW. And I think a 100# bench is right around the corner.

<applauds Mrs Strick!> nice work both of you!
