Lifting with the Stricks

I’m in the same boat. Only willing to pull reps at a very low weight and then dropping to singles. Always feel like I’m waiting for a back issue to rear its ugly head since it’s happened more than once. Hence I’m training sumo now. Have you ever tried sumo, Jennifer?

No, I haven’t. Skip had me get into the sumo stance last night, but it felt so awkward. I’m not sure my hips are flexible enough for that. If I had been paying better attention last time, I wouldn’t have screwed up my back - but I jerked it, and paid the price.

Shoulders - for both of us

Jennifer’s 1st hardcore shoulder day since her injury. My typical, ailing left shoulder, shoulder day. Funny thing was, it wasn’t hurting anteriorly, where it normally does. It was hurting in the socket and at the rear delt. Go figure. I just can’t win.

Jennifer’s workout

Military Press
barx8
60x8
70x5
80x1
85x0 - this is her max. Decided to give it a go. She let the bar get a bit out front.
75x5x3 - Nice strong reps

DB Laterals
15x8x3

Rev. Flyes
15x8x3

Strick’s workout

Lat Pulls
115x15x2 - just to warmup the joint

Military Press
barx25
95x10
135x8
185x3
215x2
235x2
250x2x2 - these hurt…so I stopped after 2 sets.

BB Shrugs
225x20
315x15
405x12
465x10 - last 2 or 3 were more power shrugs
500x8 - last 2 or 3 were power shrugs

1-arm DB Laterals
50x10
60x10

1-arm Rear Delt Raises
60x10x2

I went into the workout dragging a bit. I am on call and got dinged just before 1:00 a.m. I had to go in and didn’t make it back home until 10:00 this morning. I got about 1 1/2 hours of sleep last night and another 2 - 2 1/2 when I got home. I don’t think fatigue really hurt me today as much as having my routine blown to hell and being out of synch.

Oh bummer about the lack of sleep…still you got some quality work in…If Lady Jennifer is doing reps at 60 and 70 on MP’s she will blast by 85 right quick!!

PRs are flying around here. Nice work Stricks.

Looking really strong in that shoulder routine. Dammmm.

Thanks all.

OG - she is strange when it comes to that. To do 3 sets of 5 @ 75# and not be able to go up 10#. She can rep weight just below her max. It is the same on all her lifts.

dday - We both need some serious PRs just for the mental lift. Hers will come, as she gets back in the groove and we move back towards 5 reps and away from 8. For me…who knows. I’ll just keep swapping grips and stances until so moves…lol.

DJS - if it weren’t for my MP numbers, I don’t know what I would do. I still feel “weak” for someone my size.

Two days off and then back to bench and back. I am looking forward to playing with a new hand placement. Fingers crossed…

This is very common with women. Especially with upper body lifts. Certainly true with my bench.

Stop your crying and man the Hell up!!! I’m mean come on!! A real man would have powered threw!!

I wonder why that is the case!? Interesting…

I do bitch, moan, groan, gripe, complain and cry about this more than should be legal…lol.

Yessir! I’ll find some rawhide to gnaw on during next week’s sets.

Between you and me (and everyone who might read this) I need to find a new OH press variation to try to break through this plateau. I am contemplating Savickas Presses. We will see.

Strick how about some uber heavy DB presses…i have no clue really since I am a full 100+ lbs below…

I guess he’ll listen to you, Dog. Strick, if anyone deserves to whine, it’s me. Jennifer has now caught up to me on overhead. A middle aged lady who just started training a few months ago is now at the level of a guy who’s sweated for 30 years.

Good work, Jennifer.

OG, I would, but my DBs only go up to 65#. At $1 a pound, a couple of 120-150# DBs is cost prohibitive…even at $.50 a #.

Whoa! Be careful there. If she hears you call her middle aged, well, I can’t promise anything…lol.
What’s scary is that she is holding back. She is putting in the effort. But she hasn’t figured out how to take the brakes off and just flat out get after it. Maybe I should try to piss her off before a lift.
Then again, I have to live with her…and women do not let things slide as easily as men.

That is no lie.

Hmmmm… Jennifer hasn’t chimed in on this. I might be in trouble. lol

I’m going to ignore that middle aged crap. Hmph. Thank you for the compliment.

Sorry. I really apologize. Didn’t mean to offend.

I just meant that someone who’s been working out only a few months has reached the level of someone like me who’s been killing himself in the gym for decades. The humiliation is mine, not yours.

Don’t worry, Cav. She is just picking at you.
Besides, she has to be strong. I mean, if she doesn’t keep me in line, who will?
