Go ahead and toot. You’re WAY too modest.
Lol…thanks Cav.

** When the weight gets heavy, I have a hard time maintaining bar path, with these narrower grips. I assume that it is because it is not how I normally bench, so I am trying to hit my chest where I normally do, but that isn’t correct for this grip.
2 Board Press - playing with grips
350x2 - pinkies up against the ring…same grip as above
350x2 - pinkies on the rings - easiest reps
350x1 - pinkies 3/8"inside rings, hardest set, not that fatigue could have impaired this ![]()
** This would indicate that I might be better off with my pinkies on the rings. Of course, this test was done with 2 boards. Had I gone all the way down to my chest, who knows.
Supersets - Lat Pulls (wide neutral) and Seated Rows (close neutral)
Lat Pulls
220x10x3
220x6
Seated Rows
220x10x3
220x6
Jennifer had a good day. She looked strong.
As I feared, though, her iron is still way low. If she ever gets that sorted out and has energy, look out world!
Glad y’all are feeling better.
Congrats to Mrs. S on her PR.
That’s a lot of benching you got going on there. Very nice.
Wow, strong pr,
Thank you! It feels good to be in there actually doing something again. I was getting so frustrated at not being able to lift anything because of my stupid back. Of course, tomorrow is deads - and I’m nervous. Bet I don’t forget to lock my back this time! ![]()
I’m boycotting this log until I see another “MrsS Kicks Butt, Again” video.
Lady Strick is in the HOUSE!! A tip of the hat for a fine PR!!
Big Man, what brought on the grip experimentation? I thought you were using your MP grip to see if there was carry-over, just curious?

PG, I will work on that.
OG, I think what caused me to re-evaluate was that my bench, with MP grip, was within 10# of my regular grip bench (index finger on the ring). That was about 7 1/2" narrower. That made me wonder if I would start eeking closer to my wide grip max, as I moved my grip out, or if my strongest grip (sweet spot) might be somewhere between the two. If it is the latter, maybe I am closer to 405# than I realize and I just need to find the perfect grip.
I always benched with as wide a grip as allowable so that I would have a shorter stroke. A longer stroke, from a stronger position, though, could exceed that.
Not to mention, after bench workouts, where I used my normal grip (index finger on ring), my shoulders would ache…especially my left. With the narrower grip, I don’t get that. All I feel is fatigue. No pain.
We shall see…
Nice PR for the Mrs. Damn good lifting in spite of the pain. Your going large big guy. Love following you guys!

There will be no butt kicking tonight. Unless it’s the deads kicking my butt. But I am going to try not to let that one happen.
Nice work on the PR Mrs S. Look after that back of yours.
Strick, if the narrower grip makes your shoulders hurt less then use it. That’s a no brainer!
and with your shoulder strength a 405 is definitely on the horizon.
Thanks, Brett. That would seem to be common sense, wouldn’t it!? You know me though ![]()
I sure hope that 405# is on the horizon. I have only be chasing it, off and on, for 20 years.
The workouts…MrsS and the Return of the Deads
Jennifer
Deads
135x5
155x5
175x5
190x5x2
** Form looked good. Back stayed locked. No pain. Dizziness from lack of iron, though.
Goblet Squats

Strick
Weights felt heavy as hell. Need a deload week. Fucking back…
Deads
135x8
225x5
315x3
365x2
405x2
430x3
455x3 - PR +1 Rep - these were slow as hell and not too pretty. Back is really feeling fatigued.
Speed Deads
250x3x3
Will introduce goblet squats or lunges next week.
Another good day for Jennifer. Not a bad one for me. I am supposed to get a 3 rep max, next week. Shit, I think I did that this week. That could be a problem…or an opportunity.
slow as hell on a new 3-rep PR is acceptable!!
nice - and, Jennifer, it’s good that you can get back into it now
Have not been by here in a while and
the first thing I read is dead PR, nice work.
Nice work all around Stricks
Solid work and good work on getting the PR even though you were fatigued. You’ll nail it next week too. When is your next deload?
james
Nice pulling Lady Strick!!!
Big Man- Helluva PR there! Go easy on that back of yours…train smart!!! And if you stall I am hearing a lot about this Dan John program that is easy but makes you a stud…spread the word…
Congrats on the PR
Thank you! I was really nervous going into it, and that 190 felt way heavier than it should have, but it was nice to get in there and do it!
Soldog - it’ll have to be acceptable, because “fast” wasn’t happening…lol.
Thanks, Kevin. I have been guilty of not keeping up with logs myself.
James - If all goes according to plan, I am to hit a 3RM this week and then take a week off, or just go light. That 3RM might only be 5# more than I did this week, though.
I just want to get above 500#, finally, and be able to consistently hit 500#.
OG - It is hard for someone this bullheaded to train smart. I am working on it, though. It always starts out that way, then I hit a wall and get pissed off. Once I hit that point, it is all downhill.
Thanks, DJS. And thanks for stopping by.
Jennifer came back with a vengeance, yesterday. She was really nervous about doing the deads, but pulled through with no issues. I think she will come back stronger from the off time.
