Stagnant lifts - Hey just do what I did and take darn near a year off. Starting back up you’ll get amazing week to week gains! But you gotta start around 30% below your previous PR’s.
Nice lifting Stickster(s).

Brett, that might be the case. I have always tried to go wider because I have long arms and wanted to shorten the stroke. I feel tighter and more controlled when my grip is narrower, though.
Cav, thing is, who wants to be at the same place…forever? I guarantee you that Andy Bolton is already trying to figure out how to get to a 1100# deadlift.
Bulldog, we may be hitting that 300# MP in some geriatric ward, together.
There is some really solid pressing going on in here! Congrats on the PR.
Very cool that your wife’s back is feeling better. Having a hurt back is incredibly debilitating!
james
Thanks, James. If it’s not one thing, it’s another, though.
MrsS and I both came down with a stomach bug, yesterday. It hit me at 2:30 in the morning and her just after lunch. Wiped us both out…body aches, zero energy, constant…uh…stomach bug stuff. We skipped the workout. Doing deads while have bathroom issues is not the best plan…aches and weakness aside.
Just as well, though, my daughter’s cheerleading practices are on Tuesday and Thursday. So, like during her soccer season, we are changing workouts to Sat., Mon. and Wed. We will make it up today. I a debating skipping tomorrow’s bench and back and moving that to the 1st workout, on Saturday.
Anyway, there you have it.
Glad to hear the Mrs back is better.
No amount of pepto can help when trying to pull (or squat for that matter) with the poopies. Hope y’all get to feeling better.
Sorry to hear about the bug, Strick. Be sure you & the missus get plenty of rest.
dday, you are dead right on that. Fortunately, we am doing better today.
Thanks, Cav. We got to bed early and are looking towards a triumphant return.
I was thinking about my training, this morning, and realized that I am just going through the motions. The effort is there, but I have no real goals or direction…other than getting bigger shoulders. I love shoulders.
I need to focus on something and get some fire. WHAT…is the question. I am feeling good about my bench, now that I have narrowed my grip. But I don’t want to not work MPs hard.
Deads are an obvious one, since I haven’t moved my max in so long, but my back is limiting.
I’ll figure it out. It is just so much easier with a set goal.

All I have to say lets hope are “Depends” will be able to hold up to the load.

Lol…indeed. I wonder if Titan makes depends?
I will have to post MrsS’ workout tomorrow, as I don’t have her log in front of me. She was able to do full squats, though, for the first time in weeks. She topped out at 100x8 and 110x6. She would have had the 8 @ 110#, but started suffering dizziness. I think he iron is still low. Gets tested next week.
As for me…
Deadlift
135x8
225x5
315x5
365x3
405x3
435x3
445x3
Speed Deads
225x3x3
That’s it. I was still feeling slighty achy and weak from the stomach bug. But, overall, I am pleased with the workout.
I thought you had a bad back? That’s good deadlifting. And congrats on the missus’ squatting.
Cav, I do have a bad back. And it hurts like hell during and after every deads workout. Heck, it is sore after every bench and MP workout.
I try to be sane with what I am doing, but I am not, at this point, willing to let it keep me from doing a lower body workout.
I will very possibly have to have the vertebrae fused, at some point. Until then, I will just keep going, but cautiously.
Bigstrick,
Those are a lot of deads, I only bend over that much if I drop M&M’s on the floor, excellent lifting sir.
Reading your post you’re direction is obvious, a 700 squat.
Thanks, Brian. It felt like a lot. Of course, my back fatigues quickly. My guess is that the added stress of holding a less than stables vertebrae in place is hastening the fatigue.
Since I am trying the Andy Bolton approach to deads (at least what I think is his approach, from his article), I need to hit an even heavier triple, next week, and then find a 3 rep max. That is going to be oh so fun…lol.
Joe, that would be awesome! Only two probelms…1) I am not squatting right now and 2) When I unracked 500#, some months back, I think I lost 2" in height. That shit is heavy!
Since MrsS (henceforth Jennifer) and I are changing our workout days, I am skipping today’s workout and starting up again on Saturday. I will start by swapping Bench and MP days, so that bench is on the weekend and MP the last of the week.
I want that damned 405# bench! And I think getting 35# on bench will be easier than the 20# on MP that I need to hit 300#.
Strick, I was about to say if it weren’t for the back, you should be pursuing strongman competition. If I had your pressing power and lower body strength, that’s what I’d do.
DAMNDEDOODLE Skip! Bad back and all those are some huge numbers you are posting. I 'spect that 400 300 is a lot closer than you give yourself credit for!
Cav, honestly, I don’t think I have the natural strength to compete strongman…back aside. I am not saying that I am weak. But those guys are freaks.
Wilson, I sure hope you are right. It would be nice to hit another milestone before they buy my tombstone. But damn…it is slow going.
Well, looking at your overhead press, I keep thinking of an article I read on Manfred Hoebel. The commentator was absolutely swooning over his 300# overheads. You’re pressing pretty close to that.

Thanks, Cav. OHP is definitely my favored lift. I won’t argue that my max is pretty damned good. If my bench and deads were proportionally the same, I might toot my horn a little louder. For now, though, I’ll have to settle for “average lifter”, for my size.
