Lifting with the Stricks

May 16th…

Today is Mrs. Strick’s birthday. 10 years ago today, she got the wonderful present of 15 hours of labor and a new baby girl. Yep, our daughter shares her birthday. Good side: Mrs. Strick is now officially 35. So, I can try to convince her to start a log. Bad side: My daughter is no longer in the single digits, and hell awaits! lol

I did my typical slacker deads day, so I will put Mrs. Strick 1st.
Oh…and decided on the 4 day rotation through 3 workout days per week.

Bench
barx8
70x5
95x5x5 - huge PR - previous best of 1x5 at 90#

CGB - decided to add some variety
barx8
65x5
80x5
85x5

Seated Rows
70x8
100x5x3

Lat Pulls
90x8x2
90x4 - pulling to behind the neck

Mrs. Strick’s shoulders don’t bother her doing lat pulls behind the neck. We are going to change to those.

My slacker work

Deads
135x8
225x5
315x5x3
315x15 - PR @ being a dumbass. I sucked wind for 10 minutes

I took Mrs. Strick out for her birthday, yesterday. I am about to go pull my daughter from school and take her to lunch. I think I am getting the better end of this deal. I get to eat out twice.
Presents and cake this evening.

Happy Bday Mrs Strick!

315x15 puke worthy

Damn Strick, I pulled 11x315 once and it was a huge freaking mistake. I could barely walk for two days. Props to you for the 15.

All the best to your missus.

Are higher rep deads easier on your back than the heavier, low rep ones? or doesn’t it make any difference?

15 reps on deads sounds tough, what made you go for that?

Thanks Matty, Joe. I will pass along the well wished to Mrs. Strick. Still working her for a log of her own.

Brett, the higher reps are easier on the back, as long as I keep it to one set of them. Multiple high rep sets are just as bad.
The whim just hit me, since Mrs. Strick was doing so much more, to just rep it. I thought about going ahead and doing 20 reps. I am not sure I wouldn’t have had a heart attack, though. I’m a wuss that way.

Belated Happy Birthday to the wife and your little girl.

Thanks, bulldog. They had a good one. Last minute present, which was really for all of the kids, was a dog. Shepherd mix, from the pound. No other presents existed after that. All they have done is play with the dog.

Unfortunately, Mrs. Strick is extremely allergic to dogs. But she was willing to take one for the team. And it is definitely worth it.

Yes, happy birthday to your wife. She should definitely start a log over here. You guys are all so supportive. I’d sure enjoy the female company. Her progress has been nothing short of amazing.

Snap, I am working on her. I think she will eventually come around.

Belated well wishes to Mrs. Strick for her 35th. Where are the cake pics?

(and the cute puppy pics!)

PG, the puppy is one year old. We needed one that was house broken, for those inside times.

Worn down MP day
Lots of shoulder discomfort and general feeling of frailty. Time to back off and reset.

MP
barx20
95x10
135x5
185x3
225x5
235x3
245x3 - sugar crash
255x(abort) - sugar had crashed. Unracked the weight and lost my balance. Recovered and racked. Just need a break.

Mrs. Strick’s out of time workout

Deadlift
135x5
170x5
200x5x5 - PR by 4 sets

Got some video of her lifts but don’t have the time to download them right now. Will get them up.
She looked pretty good (butt was lifting a bit early), but others=wise they were strong reps. I’m giddy for her! (Yes, I said “giddy”.)

We are moving back to our Sun., Tues., Thurs. schedule. Hopefully the 3 days off will help. I might need to take an official deload and rearrange my days so that MP is after the 2 day break. Plotting…

Happy birthday- all around.
sorry to be late.

Strick you are OH pressing what some people squat.

mrs.strick is a beast.

And most likely with better form as well.

Thanks, Kevin. I am still working on the log thing. There seems to be two walls for her…1) She is already active on a rather large board, not related to lifting, and worries that adding another is just too much and 2) since she doesn’t know anyone here, is a newbie to lifting and doesn’t necessarily take it as serious as most folks here. She is not sure what she would say in other people’s logs…which would be a must for her. Like most folks, if people post in her log she feels the need to return the favor.
Couple those two and it is a double whammy - if they post in my log, I should post in theirs. But what do I say and will I have the time?

I am trying to convince her to, at least, get an account and post her own workouts/takes on things, in my log. Not sure I am winning this battle, but I am going down fighting.

Thanks, Rug. I hope my form is at least close to right. I do seem to come off the bottom more violently than most. Not saying that is a bad thing, but I definitely seem to explode more. Just have to make sure that is all coming from the upper body.

ALSO, I think I have figured out why I seem to be wearing down so quickly. I feel like a dumbass for not seeing it more clearly, even though I have mentioned it.

Since starting back to lifting, I have been averaging about 7 - 7 1/4 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes I would only get 6 1/2 hours, sometimes 8 hours.
Enter the schedule change… I am getting up an hour earlier than I used to. BUT, I seem to be having trouble getting to sleep. I think this is because I haven’t adjusted to the new schedule. Being an Aspie doesn’t help. Some changes are hard to swallow.

Last night was a prime example. I was in bed just before 10:00, with a potential 7 1/2 hours of sleep in front of me. I didn’t fall to sleep until just before 11:00. I woke up at 5:00. This seems to be the new pattern…6 - 6 1/4 hours of sleep a night. The loss of that hour is killing me. If I can get to sleep a tad earlier, and get it back to 7 hours, I think I will come back around.
That is easier said than done, though.

^^^‘They’ say we need less sleep as we get older. Shows what ‘they’ know!!!

Hope everythings going okay out your way biggun. Bad weather goin on. Stay hunkered down. Prayers for you and the family.

Yeah x2, I hope all is well with you and yours.

Hope you made it through ok, those storms were no joke.

Hope you and yours stayed safe last night.

NOT MY HOUSE

Thanks all. We made it through unscathed. There was one that showed up about a mile SW of us, heading straight into our neighborhood, but it never reached the ground. We do have a storm shelter, and I ushered everyone into it twice, about 20 minutes apart.

Everyone did great. The kids knew what they needed to do and what they needed to take, in case we did get hit and got stuck in the shelter. I was the bad one, as I hate staying in the shelter and not knowing what is going on.
I think we ended up with 3 tornadoes within 5 miles of us.

One of my co-workers took pretty much a direct hit, from a small one. It lifted the roof off the house, and part of the house off the ground, then set them both back down. They have a pic of a cereal box that was caught between the roof/ceiling and a wall, when it was set back down. Pic of the house included.

I got in trouble with the wife :frowning: As tornadoes are nothing new, here, we were going about business as normal. We just kept the news on, in case something happened. The kids had just eaten and Mrs. Strick and I started working out. Then the sirens started. This was the 1st time I got everyone in the shelter. There was a tornado on the ground, but the exact location wasn’t clear.

The sirens were going off and I decided to play it safe and get everyone to a safe place. After a minute, the wind calmed a bit and the rain lessened, so I told Mrs. Strick that I was going to go back inside and see what they were saying on the news. (The storm shelter is about 20’ from the back door.)
I checked the news and it looked like there was a vortex several miles away, heading in our general direction, but whatever had set off the sirens had dissipated.

So, I took that opportunity to get in another set of deads, before my muscles cooled off. Well, Mrs. Strick caught me! She was not pleased. Not really angry, angry, but a little annoyed. She got over it.
