Oh hell just slap 800 on the bar and give it a tug! Great work even though the going is rough. It’s no pic-a-nic being a bear(I think that a Yogi the bear quote).
Matty (purely anecdotal of course): I started experiencing occasional, mild tingling in my left forearm and hand, especially when doing chin tuck, i.e. cervical neck stretching; partly from reading about your travails, I moved the bar on my back squats an inch or so (making sure my puny traps were taking as much of the weight as possible). A few weeks later now, no more tingling; and I squat baby weights, 225 max these days.

Im all about the anecdotal PG lol. when you moved the bar was it higher or lower? I am not comfortable with the really low bar PL squat, nor the high bar oly placement. I tend to go across my traps
I moved it lower. I had been going as high as possible due to folding over issues because of my short torso, long legs. Across the traps should be optimal in theory. I even exaggerate it now by basically shrugging up my traps and doing the neck tuck before I unrack the bar.

In my case, I think as I went down in the hole and started leaning over, the bar tended to roam forward off my traps and onto my neck/spine (hope that made sense).

I do kind of the same thing I tuck my neck for placement on my traps when squatting

Today

Pendlay Rows - 135x10 185x10 205x10 225x3x10
Clean and Press - 135x5x5
Flys - 5x15 (SS with Decline HS)
Curls

Used the clean and press with little waiting between sets and used the push press to get some overhead work in albeit with light weight, its the only way to do it safely…it was fun

Matty,

In the interest of saving people from wasted time and monumental embarrassment you should have to wear a shirt that says “I am really strong but I am injured, If you do Hammer Benches with one plate you will not look like me, even if you do sets of 1,000” I know that is a lot to put on a shirt, maybe you could just have it tattooed on your enormous biceps almost like a warning tag that they put on hair dryers (i.e. don’t use in shower) to keep folks safe. I hope you continue to recover big man, it’s like the 6th circle of hell being able to deadlift but not bench, good luck and nice work.
Im not going to lie, sometimes my ego gets the best of me when I see a bunch of dickseats half repping 3 plates, I want to show its how its done so bad. Thanks for the kind words, you have an excellent way with them!
Its even worse when the asshats are obvious machine warriors who like to tell other people how awesome their program is despite being weak as kittens.

Wow Matty - you are a beast working through injuries and pain like that. Be careful dude so you can keep lifting a long time. Hope you find some very skilled docs to shorten the recovery.

Matty, how are things currently with your neck? Have you decided for surgery or rehab or wait and see? Sorry if you’ve already posted the answer somewhere.

Thanks alot brother, since the epidural I havent experienced any pain, but since there is no strength in my left arm Its impossible to go heavy with any pushing movements. This is a probably a blessing in disguise because if my strength was back and the pain was masked from the epidural I would have went full bore and probably end up aggravating the injury further. The heavy DLs a few weeks ago was a mistake and will probably relegate myself to “speed work” on the pulls.

Thanks for stopping by!

Whats up bud?

Ive been dealing with it since July, and while the pain has dissipated the numbness and tingling are present and there is very little grip and pushing strength in my left arm. I did the accupuncture, meds, spinal traction, inversion table and TENs unit. these only provide temporary relief and no permanent cures.

I have 2 doc appointments lined up with a neurosurgeon and an orthopedic surgeon who have come highly recommended. I have also got an opinion from a Doc who frequents this site and whose opinion I also hold in high regard. He believes I should get surgery, the best 2 out of 3 lol.

You ask some people and they say if you wait too long and the issue may be permanent, you ask some others and they say surgery should be the last choice and exhaust all other efforts.

I think I have waited long enough, if the docs concur I see myself getting surgery by the end of the year after my jobs busy season.

Im pretty scared, TBH all I do know is that the epidural is going to wear off and Ill be back to square one.

My wife, her mother and oldest brother have each had multiple back surgeries and they’re all doing great. So I know you’re going to breeze through this.

The doctors and procedures are getting better all the time. They can really work miracles now days. If it is time it is time, you might as well get it done and get on with recovery. Good luck brother.

Hope your doctors can fix the problems. Injuries and anything that slows you down just sucks. You have the spirit to come back fighting and we are all pulling for you.

Solid plan seeking advice from a number of experts. Good luck brother, as GV said we are all pulling for you.

Good luck man! You’ll be back full force soon enough once you get it done.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes it means alot…Ill keep yall updated, have a doc appointment today…
