Lifting and Protein

The first and second sentences are questions. Did you see the question marks at the end? Do you agree or disagree with those questions? (Which are attempts at clarifying your post) so there is no “implying”

wouldn’t say “sole” purpose to either

i don’t think of carbs as a main energy source, fat possibly

with too many carbs it’s kind of like energy levels spike/lower all day (for me)

I did not mean for that post to come across hostile. If it did I apologize.

What do you think of carbs as? If protein is for building muscle and fat is possibly for energy, what are carbs for?

Thanks.

energy, just don’t need much of it

also like I said everyone is different, maybe some people do better on carbs, some people train more, etc.

just speaking from a personal perspective… carbs past a certain point always made me feel like shit

What does your current diet macro breakdown look like?

I assume you are looking to add weight?

Here’s a link to what Norton says about protein absorption, specifically about mass quantities BioLayne Video Log 4 - Myths About Protein - YouTube

Basically he says what most have been saying I’m here already…there is probably a limit to how much protein will be used for an anabolic purpose (he estimates between 30-40gs), but that taking in more is not worthless. Again he says the same thing, yall already did, that the protein will be used for other things and will continue to be utilized throughout your digestive track.

On a side note I’ve used the 6 meal a day for one prep and then brought it down to 4 to 3 I got to the same level of conditioning with both. However, I was much happier and less stressed with less meals. There is a time period where you have to adjust from frequent meals to less, but once thats over I think its much more practical.

A lot of interesting comments there. Worth checking it out.

What is fhe purpose of the HCG and how much did you take?

Have not heard of this before.

I think people are too worried about “waste” when it comes to protein

Nothing is wasted

If it’s not used for protein synthesis, it’s used for energy. Contrast this with carbs or fat which has no potential for building muscle mass

From an evolutionary perspective, I think massive intakes of protein are normal, feast and famine. As opposed to artificially small doses of protein due to some need to conform to the “6 meals a day”.

Also, the studies done by Norton were related to Leucine and not other amino acids. Blood AA will be elevated after massive doses of protein, but not necessarily Muscle Protein Synthesis.
yolo84 wrote:

how many cals a day are you eating

the 2k drink: what are the ingredients and amounts used (eg 3 scoops of powder, etc)
4 scoops protein powder
maybe 8 tablespoons PB
oil
banana
coconut milk

between 4 and 5k, i probably lift for 2.5 hours every other day so I need about this much to gain… plus I naturally have a fast metabolism
It may not be wasted, but it can be converted to triglycerides, which I’m sure you’re not intentionally doing, right?

Also, I think you evolutionary justification is flawed. “Feast or famine” would really only make sense if you were having large, infrequent burst of protein, as in several day between when you happened to kill an animal. Doesn’t really hold up when you are eating several meals a day and they all contain protein. Not really any “famine periods” going on there.

Also, with some of the links that have been posted, it seems the higher end of a serving suggestion at once is around 50g-60g. I think the additional 80-90g is overkill by a quite a bit. Not sure I’ve ever seen anyone even suggest that kind of number as useful.

It’s your powder though.

I think he’s kidding. The hCG diet was a nonsense fad that was around for a while

Human chorionic gonadotropin is the hormone produced when women are pregnant.

I chronicled this in my log, Dr friend of mine owns a longevity clinic and prescribed this with a book that has the diet. I injected .125 cc daily in my forearms. I dropped from 238 to 202 in that 36 days. This is NOT a BB or diet for health.

I had settled in that 230-240 weight fluctuation range for the last few years. I turn 40 in a few months and for my injury history I wanted to “reset” my weight. So I did some drastic diet to reset that. Now I am between 210-215 I dont know or care about BF% Im just a gym rat.

That was the whole liquid drops and stuff.

This was the actual prescription and original diet by the Dr from Italy.

Cool, interesting stuff and thanks for the reply.

Have a couple more questions but will just look at your log as they will probably be answered in there.

It was Oct of last year. I really only recommend this diet for people who are interested in losing scale weight, like “fat” people. I did it knowing I would drop muscle and strength, but I have been all over the spectrum with weight as an adult from 175 to 305

it’s more out of interest than anything - I don’t have plans to do it myself or suggest it to anyone.

i post on another site which is geared heavily towards steroids and see HCG mentioned alot, just never looked into it before.

weird, I thought it was all just bullshit

Most of them are/were.

Really great thread guys!

So I think I have been having digestive issues with drinking whey protein shakes and I think I want to stop drinking them for a while. I have taken a break from it for a week and have felt much better, but when I started drinking it again, the problems came back. Basically, I get diarrhea from drinking them.

Without shakes I can still getting the appropriate amount of protein from whole foods and am considering to supplement with BCAAs. Do you guys think this is a good idea? MY goal is strength, but i wanna look good to.

Besides knowing that BCAA’s prevent muscle break down, I really don’t know what they do. Do they allow you to use protein more efficiently?

If I do supplement with them, when should i take it… inra and post workout?

Thanks in advance gentleman!

Maybe try Egg protein instead

^ do you think it’s necessary if I’m getting enough protein from whole food?
