Lifter Shakes Violently with Heavier Attempts

I’ve got a lifter that I’ve been working with for several months now and his form looks great, his gear looks to fit correctly, his technique is correct but for some reason, whenever the weight gets above about 85-90% he starts to shake violently. I’m guessing this is a CNS issue, how would I go about getting this to calm down? Thanks!

It’s just the beginner shakes. They’ll go away as he gets more used to the movements.

You could have him use less heavy loads for higher reps if you insisted, but it’ll all shake out over time (see what i did there?).

Is this for all lifts, or just one in particular?

Please clarify the lift but yes he needs further CNS adaptation. For example if squatting is the problem try walk outs. Just have him load the bar with heavier than normal weight and unrack, walk out, and then walk back and rerack. Have him do this several times for the session. With bench you can do the same thing. Load the bar heavy, unrack, stablize the weight and rerack. No actual lifting though.

The most pronounced example of shaking that I have seen was a 123lb powerlifter who shook badly pulling the deadlift. He was pulling the mid 400’s. BTW, he usually won his class in all the meets that I saw him in. He did not shake on the other two lifts.

Ya’ll need to take lessons from Master Shake

Not to be confused with Master Shake

Squat and bench, doesn’t seem to d oi on deadlift that I’ve noticed.

He’s not a complete novice, he’s been lifting for quite some time. This is just how long I’ve been working with him.

Yeah, my guys is much worse than that.

That’s what I’m thinking, just more heavy lifts heavy unracks

I love that there is definitely some dude In the comments who has no idea who that or what he is doing, talking about “big guy only squatting like 365, pathetic” :joy::joy::joy:

Physically, I would recommend getting your core stronger and seeing if that helps.

I always thought it was just lack of muscle memory to control weight. | guess it depends on person.

Is this him?
