ok well i guess since this thread started about me i’ll respond. First of all i wasn’t trying to prove anything by listing my lifts its a simple rule of the rate my physique forum and last time i checked videos weren’t required. I train by myself and try to talk to people as little as possible while i focus on my workouts other than asking for a spot when i need it and i’d rather not bother people by asking them to take a video of me while i lift.
You can believe my numbers or not doesn’t bother me either way and i dont see why i have to prove anything to anyone but myself. I never actually max out so those are estimates but i train using low reps and my recent workouts i hit 275x3 on bench 315x4 for squats and 350x4 for deads so im pretty sure i could come close to those maxes if i wanted.
Also i agree my chest isn’t huge but my tris have always dominated my pressing movements and the way someone looks really doesn’t necessarily correlate to their strength. Look at a guy like Eric Cressey whos squatted over 500 benched 400 and pulled over 600 weighing in the 160s and not really looking all that huge.
And i really dont think theres anything special about my lifts anyway…sure they might be pretty good for 175 pounds and compared to the average gym member but i’m sure theres plenty of guys on this site at that weight who could crush my lifts. Well thats all, maybe i’ll shoot some videos of my lifts for you as a christmas present to put a smile on your face

While I do agree that most people are a bit disillusioned, I would also like to point out that my own strength and size developed in quite an unproportional manner. I first benched 315 at about 150 lbs, so I always want to believe what people say,… still, with the way the internet is set up, you will always have people willing to support, or backup their claims, and those who boast, rant and moan, and yet you will never see a pic, a vid, or any sort of accomplishment from a blank online profile.
If this issue is honestly preventing you from sleeping well at night, I’m sure there are much bigger concerns to be worried about -lol

Out of curiosity, what kind of weights do you work with on chest exercises now? Your physique is far more developed than when you were 150 and I wanted to see what kind of strength gains equated to the muscle you put on.
I rarely do flat bench anymore, and when I do it’s usually DBs and at the very end when I’m toasted, so I doubt any figure could show relevance. But, while I used to Incline BB press 225 back “in the day” I now do incline BB work with about 295 for reps, and have gone up to the 140 DBs for inclines when I start my workout with them.
To be honest, I’m still a little shocked at the weights I sometimes lift, because like PX states, they are of absolutely no use to me except as a gauge of what to use from one session to the next. Even as I get older, with proper nutrition and smart training, I still keep getting a little stronger (which isn’t really a bad thing -lol).

As a warm-up.
Did your workout partner also happen to deadlift 405x8 yesterday too?
Nah, that’s what he did for standing OHP.
Those lifts arent that unbelievable tbh at that kind of bodyweight
I know someone thats benched 170kg and isnt big by any means. Some people just seem to be strong at low bodyweights, and if they train for that, after a few years its not surprising for them to reach those kind of numbers

Hello,
I’ve been reading Tmuscle daily for about a year now.
What I notice a lot is that people write down lifts that really amaze me. Some latest guy on “rate my…” weighs in at 175 and has a bench of 290 and a squad of 340. So in my system that is a 79,5 kg guy with a bench (1rm???) of 131,8kg and a squad of 154,5kg.
Looking at his legs and chest… I’d say I’m in doubt.
This is just an example. I see guys posting lifts that really make my head shake.
There are 3 things in life that people lie about:
Everybody has a cell phone with camera in it. If you say you can lift those weights, please send us a video, otherwise shut up.

Those lifts that you stated are hardly exceptional. What is most idiotic is that you assume that bodyweight is the sole determining factor in strength. You fail to take into account the following;
-Height - and therefore muscular proportions
-Leverages for lifting
-Body composition - %bodyfat, %lean muscle mass
-Years training - strength through repitition
All of which are underpinned by genetics.
Thats not to say you are completely wrong, many people do exagerate their lifts.
I don’t get it. The guy’s a bodybuilder, not a powerlifter. Who gives a rat’s ass what weight he’s using for what lift?

The OP.
I used to feel that way, that people were getting on here and lying up a storm about their lifts, until I got stronger and actually started to go to powerlifting meets. Now I know I was just being a pussy and there are lots of strong little guys out there.
You can post pics, vids, W-2s and your curriculum vitae, if someone doesn’t like what you do or say they are still going to call bullshit. Fekk them.

I could not agree more, especially the height aspect of it. You don’t see too many 6’1 175lb skinny guys putting up 290 on the bench, but someone who is 5’8 175 putting up 290. They are a dime a dozen. You can’t just base lifts on someones weight.
ive seen a far share of people around 175lbs bench near that. my first thought definately wasnt “lie” more of get that fucking squat up to match the impressiveness of the bench lol.
As others have said those are good numbers but nothing out of the ordinary. I weighed in at 169 this morning and just hit 335x1 on the bench tonight raw. That’s just 5 pounds under my raw PR but I was weighing about 12 pounds more at that time. I really would like to hit a raw 400 bench before all is said and done. Along with 500+ on squat and deadlift.
I bench 78KG at 67KG.
Wanna see a video of THAT?!?!

Stu is way shorter than you (If I’m not mistaken) with different leverages, chances are to look roughly the same in proportion to your height you’ll have to be significantly stronger in the same rep ranges…
Fortunately you seem to be doing well when it comes to strength gains and progress in general, plus you’re still younger (I think) than I was when I started training
Keep it up and I have no doubt that you’ll become one of the biggest and strongest people to post on this site.

For many powerlifters in that weight range those numbers are not impressive. I had a friend who was 198 lbs and could deadlift 725lbs…saw him do it with my own two eyes.

If you blinked, it wasn’t legit.
I guess for me Benching 300 at 170lb is pretty impressive if it was done competition style.
Yeah after seeing someone’s post that record at 181lb class is 450lb benchpress, I am starting to doubt my friends who lifted over 300lb incline BP at 150lb of body weight.
A question, I know there would be a huge discrepancy b/w competition style BP vs everyday BP, but would there be much difference when it comes to DL and SQ? (this question seems to fit better in powerlifting forum but oh well)
