Hey greekdawg, are you from Vegas? Or are you just out for the fights? Just wondering because I was born and raised here. Which is one of the reasons I love boxing so much (probably been to 30 fights).
Funny you should ask…I’m pretty much raised here as well…I"m gonna PM you
Wow! That was exciting!
Also, the nastiest cut I have ever seen! Eww!
I have lost respect for Lewis. Didn’t he learn his lesson from Rahman I? There’s no excuse for the first time, but to do it again!?!?!?
We also learned, Vitili can take a punch! So much for the “glass jaw” tag.
We can look forward to a rematch…hopefully.
I hate it when fights end like that. Fun fight, though.
Let me be the first to say…more proof why Lennox Lewis is a chump. Vitali gets two weeks notice and almost knocks him out. He was winning on all three scorecards. If it wasn’t for that cut, I think their would have been a new HW champ for sure.
We’ll see if Lewis even wants a rematch…I doubt it though.
Another thing, WTF is Roy Jones thinking?? does he want to die? So what he beat Ruiz…Ruiz is not even a fighter, Lewis would murder him.
Seemed like Lewis was prepared for a fight he was sure he could win. I don’t know much about his opponent who got hurt, but I know Klitschko looked like he had what it took to win that fight (except for the fact that it looked like he was going to bleed out…) I’m not sure whether this was him being underrated, or Lewis coming in soft, but I’d like to see a rematch.
Greekdawg,
Die Nadels post made perfect sence. What he was saying was that if you are
big (co-ordinated quick strong and tough) there is no need for you to take
up boxing there are more incentives to take up team sports. Now if you look
at it as a population issue as he did rather then a individual issue as you
did you will see that if there are 10 million big strong athletic tough
coordinated people in the world and only 1% are seriosly interested in
boxing because other careers in team sports are more attractive then the
boxing talent pool is 100, 000. Now if other sports were less attractive
and 10% of this group wanted to box then the talent pool would be 1 000 000.
Seeing that the shorter guys in the lower weight groups dont really have
many of the other sports as a realistic opportunity the % of them wanting to
box as profession as opposed to other sports will be higher increasing the
size of the talent pool. If the top 20 fighters in a talent pool of 1 000
000 represents the top 0.002% whereas the top 20 fighters in a pool of 100
000 only represents the top 0.02%.
Now your points about having to know how to box and just being big and
athletic doesnt make you a Heavyweight fighter are valid for individuals but
are taken into account by simple epidemiology and probabliity.
BOTTOW LINE IS the top 20 or 50 or 100 or x fighters of pool of 1 000 000
is more likely to be higher quality then the same number of fighters from a
pool of talent 10 times smaller…
Only saw the last 2 -3 rounds… would have been good to see it go longer!
Was interesting to see that lewis helped klitschko up when they both fell to the ground.
Was lewis faking being tired in the 5th and 6th… It looked like he was wobbly a couple of times and that he would definelty go down but then would spring into action almost as if he was doing it intentionally…
Chris Aus: I like your version of what I said much better! lol
The most astonishing thing about last night is the fact that George Foreman is serious about fighting again. What the fuck?
Vitali’s cut was almost as gross as the third head that Rahman grew in the Holyfield fight last June. Do you guys remember that?
Lewis look OLD and TIRED. The guy is 37 and he was looking every bit of it. Aside from only purists who will watch bryd vs. lewis, lewis knows he’s too slow to keep up with byrd. Roy beats holy nov.1, and i’m sure he beats bryd as well. If he wants to Lewis, he could do it but tell u this he would make lewis look like holyfield. very very slow.
I always hated lewis. The guy is such a pussy. Anways. I would have like to see vitale win that fight. The guy was clearly the winner by score and definitely in good enough shape to finish the fight. Can’t wait for the rematch,… if lewis decides to grow a set.
Man, am I pissed off! I got the start time wrong for the fight and by the time my buddy got off work the fight was over. I got there just in time to see Vitali get interviewed after the fight. From what I can tell Vitali was winning the fight, both had landed good shots, but Lewis was out of shape and looking tired. The way people make it sound, Vitali would have won if not for the cut. Then I found out it was only the 6 round and Lewis probably won round 6. How the fuck can people say he would have won when Lewis won the last round and the fight was only half over?
well lets be honest. IF Lewis DID TRAIN PROPERLY and fought has he could, then he would have beaten Klitchko. Remember the other Klitchko is the better half - who lost against corry sanders.
I’m definitely interested in a rematch after watching last night, as I’m sure most others are as well.
That’s the first time I’ve seen Lewis face a real challenge. Heck, if not for that major slice Vitali suffered he’d won.
Lewis won the last round and the second round. so out of 6 rounds he won 2, thats how you could say vitale would have won the fight. lewis was out of shape and deserved to lose.
Bullpoo - Lewis did not win the 2nd round, that’s when Klitchko made him stumble and was landing more punches. He won the 1st and 6th. In between was all K all the way.
Here’s my take on the fight:
Lewis was out of shape and the softest I ever seen him. The way I seen it was Lewis won 2 rounds and maybe even 3(being the 5th round). It looked like Lewis was taking over to me. He put the cut over Vitali’s eye and Vitali couldn’t continue because of that punch. To say Lewis is a chump is not right to me. He’s beat everyone he’s faced(some in rematches) and he’s beat every good fighter(except Riddick Bowe) in the last 15 years. I’m dieing to see the rematch though. I thought it was one of the best heavyweight fights in a while and Vitali looks like he has a shot.
Vitali should have gotten more aggressive after the third when his eye was really opening up. At that point the wound was big enough that someone in his corner should have figured that the fight probably couldn’t go twelve. He never changed from his strategy of going for a decesion though and that was a mistake.
