Awesome
one thing that always has helped me (with DOMS, usually after a heavy load session) was to go and do some light weights for excessive reps the following day. i.e. let’s say I was squatting 350 for 1-2 reps, the next day I’d go and do 115-135 for a few sets of 20-25
on a side note…are getting some good NEPA(non-exercise phy. activity)? I’ve found that helps with the soreness as well.
So, what’d ya hit today??
oh hai

Yeah, I need to stop taking 4 days off after working my legs. They didn’t even hurt that much this time. I just feel so “blah” after that going to the gym is a huge effort and it’s so much easier to NOT go to the gym.
I’m glad you’re being honest
its true, sometimes going to the gym is a huge effing effort. So I understand.
But in all honesty, you should just force yourself to go. I know it sounds cruel, but you just need to get into the habit.
In fact, force yourself to go to the gym and if you’re really not feeling it, you can walk right out. I’ve been known to do this! Did it last Saturday actually (I went to the locker room fussed with my hair and pee’d then was outtie like that place was on fire). But usually once you’re at the gym, you can motivate for something, even if your just stretching or foam rolling (or checking out the young hotties…)

Nope… Not cruel at all. I agree with you, though.
A large majority of people who workout have to force themselves to go, to a certain degree at least. The process of getting ready is normally the worst part. But, once you’re at the gym, the rest is cake. In my opinion, anyway.

On this note I’d like to add the old phrase…“Getting to the gym is half the battle!” So…yeah, what they said…

Well, it’s pretty easy to get to my gym b/c it’s at work! LOL! Seriously, there is NO reason I “can’t” go to the gym, I’m already there! I have to go there anyway, why not go a few hours early (which I’ve been doing) and work out?
Thanks for all the encouragement! You all are so awesome! I think I’ve been down lately and just stressed in general b/c this is the last two weeks of class and I’m scared something will happen to mess up my graduation. After that is the big move to Philly and that is stressing me out too (though I am NOT scared about it, just stressed). I need to take all of that and put it to better use than making huge ass knots in my shoulders!
Stress can be a bitch, especially when it’s regarding big life changes like graduation and a move. Training can really help take your mind off it for a time, though, and give you some perspective. ![]()
I force myself to go on occasion and usually I feel better…but mainly, gym time is my only ME time…and lifting is a huge stress reliever in itself!
I’m sure your feelings will change once you have a certain someone around to motivate you! ![]()
Hey, I also meant to say is that you are just beginning lifting…right now it probably just feels like something on your list of things to do…
But soon, when you stick with it and start seeing results of the effort you are putting in, it will be worthwhile and hopefully hitting the gym will be something you WANT to do…

I couldn’t agree more with MiM and Ms. Blue! You’ve definately got a load going on and IME your training will be a great help with those ‘knots.’ I’m also sure that you’ve got some great support so I’M POSITIVE you’ll conquer these challenges with ease (it’ll probably be easier to see in hindsight though…)
Also…I don’t know when it happens…but at some point in your training it becomes problematic to stay away from the gym (at least IME). Sure I can go for as long a couple of weeks, but usually around the third week…I start getting all bitchy and crap, my sleep pattern gets screwed up, my bones start to ache, etc.
Anyone else notice something similar?

I certainly do! It only takes me about a week to get bitchy and not sleeping well, though. I think I’m addicted to training, & the immediate effect it has on my body. ![]()
I can’t stay away from the gym…actually my hubby teases me and refers to ‘Gym,’ as my boyfriend ![]()
^ ^ ^ ^ Agreed 100%. In fact I myself often refer to the gym as my “jealous lover” - he gets testy if I don’t give him the attention he needs. But then he gets mad at me and tells me I’m just projecting, that he’s fine without me and that he has enough cardio bunnies to keep him busy for weeks!
And I see the way the other girls look at him, so then I really do get jealous! But he’s right, I just can’t quit him. So I apologize and we end up have wild and rough make-up sex.
Greenie, you just keep trucking - you do have a lot on your plate and stress can be kind of debilitating. Once you’re under the watchful eye (i.e. adoring gaze) of Sir Hungry , you’ll get into your groove and hopefully be just as obsessive/neurotic/deliriously happy with being a gym-rat.
It takes me about a day away from the gym before I get itchy. I crave the rush and actually wake up slightly down on non-lifting days. Call me obsessed.

Ah, yes, MiM and Masch… Greens WILL be under my watchful eye in a little over a month from now. I don’t keep any junk at my place, with the exception of popcorn and I shop everyday… i’m weird like that. I’ll do my best to ‘guide’ without ‘control’, to help with whatever goals she has.
When it comes to the gym, once I get started, I normally get tunnel vision and get aggravated if anything gets in the way of my schedule or gym time. So, trying to keep a balance of my training along with interaction with Greeny, that will be a test in itself. I’m looking forward to becoming a gym rat again.
I’ve been going to the gym 4 to 6 times per week for 8 months. The results are awesome. I feel “weird” if I don’t go to the gym that often. It’s truly a great addiction.
Hsppy to see so many ‘addicts’ around here. Should be some strong support for Greenie while she’s truckin’ along…
Hungry…man I can completely relate to the ‘tunnel vision’ thing. Especially in regards to the effect it can have on a relationship. Man, I wish you guys the best of luck with that. For me…I’ve had to adopt the MO of No training with my significant other. I’ll pray it works out for two!
