Let's Talk Training Gloves, and Glove Love

What brand, weight, style, and material do you use? What glove do you think is best for an all around practice glove (sub $150)? Best beginner glove? Have an opinion on bag gloves? State it. What’s the worst glove you’ve ever used? What do you do to care for your gloves?

43 view and no comments, shame on you fools. I’ll start:
I use some old and cheap 18oz title gloves, and have for three years. The leather is still good, although I’m sure that the padding is about toast. I don’t do much to take care of these (in fact they stay in my car even in 105 degree temperatures). These were not my beginner gloves, but is what I would recommend to beginners. They’re as inexpensive as the cheap everlast’s you’ll find at sporting stores, but they’re much better quality. I have a nicer pair of Venum 16oz gloves that still have very fresh padding. They have decent wrist support and palm padding for kickboxing, but I won’t be keeping these for much longer as I’m moving to just do boxing. My dream pair of gloves? Something that’s good quality, made for smaller hands, and looks FLASHY. Worst glove I’ve ever used? Had to be the first pair I had. Everlast gloves from Dick’s Sporting Goods. Horrible, terrible, bad gloves.

Agree on this one.
My first ever Training Gloves were 16oz Everlast, they fell apart in about 8 months, 50 bucks blown out of the window!

I do almost all my heavy bag work with Bag Mitts by Pro Box. Real leather, thus doesn’t smell that bad, cost me less than 30 euros and I’ve been using them extensively for almost 3 years now. They are still alright.

For contact training I’ve been using both Adidas SMU 12oz (about 30 bucks) and Adidas “Performer” 16oz (about 50 bucks).
I was positively surprised as I did not expect them to make it more than 2 years, but they are both still kicking ass. Great gloves.

I take care of these by filling them with old newspapers to soak in all the sweat.

Worst gloves ever? I hate everything that looks way to flashy

Awww man! You mean you don’t want the lime green and aqua grant gloves? Honestly I love flashy gloves, don’t know why. Which pair, 12 oz or 16 oz, do you use for sparring?

Beershoes we had a couple threads on this recently, it’s probably why few people are answering.

One was called “Taking care of your gear” and the other was… I don’t know, somethin else. But they were pretty recent.

The other one was started by beershoes.

I don’t think so Robert. The other was a thread I started about any kind of training gear, where as this is very much boxing specific. I can understand the confusion.

To the rest, my bad guys. This is what happens when you’re: A) Not very active on a forum and B) Obsessing over gear.

They distract me too much and I am always afraid that the painting starts to chip so I stick with gloves that are either plain white or black.
No hate towards cool design, just not a fan of making a tool more than it is. A tool.

We use 12oz for light sparring and get the 16oz out for an occasional competition sparring.
Have you ever checked out RDX MMA gloves? They have some fancy designs, maybe just the stuff you like.

My favorite Free Finger/Grappling Gloves are made by Okami

Ordered them last year, they look badass. Got myerlf some shorts with that angry wolf look as well

I got a lot of my gear several years ago before some of the more fancy brands were out. I don’t use my MMA gear anymore as I’m looking to move to purely boxing. My body just can’t keep up with the injuries from MMA anymore. The MMA gloves I used were the combat sports international amateur 4oz, and my shin guards are windy (had them for 3 years).

I’ve posted about them recently, I really, really like them. Pretty solid gloves so far.

Those look really well padded. I even see some extra padding in the wrist and palm. Is that a hybrid kickboxing glove like the Venum gloves? What weight did you get? I also just have to say… 34oz!!! HOLY SHIT!

Nah they’re straight up boxing gloves - it’s just the nature of that injected foam that Ring to Cage uses. They’re 16 oz, and they are incredibly well-padded; I can go to town on any bag in the gym and my hands feel nothing.

The only issue I see with them are some loose threads here and there, but I’m not sure if that’s to be expected after about a month of hard use.

My old Titles never had any issues with the stitching, so I’m unsure how serious it is… anyone have any thoughts on this?

My Titles are still solid after about a year and a half of use. Glad to hear the Ring to Cage are a good fit for you. What do you use for sparring, and what head gear? I’ve ran into a bit of a problem with sparring, as I’ve received a few black eyes, even while wearing head gear. This is not keeping my employer happy. Any suggestions on good headgear and sparring gloves?

Guess it’s something you either have to accept or get yourself a helmet with a grid (like the ones you use for knife training)
