same thing kinda happens here haha
not quite as bad but the hands came up which always makes me nervous. BTW im looking to hit 405 no later than early summer. that 325x6 was last night, the 335x3 was a few weeks back but i felt lethargic as fuck that night.
Hit the 4 plate tonight…bounced it fairly good off my chest and hit the upright right at lockout (stupid pegs) but fuck you, I’m counting it

I’m an asshole when it comes to technically correct lifts. I say that because I don’t see a bounce, I see a touch and go. By the time you hit the pin, the lift was basically done. No way you were missing it that high up. I’d count it.
Hit 360 with a pause. 365 would have gone probably. I’m going to do a smolov jr bench cycle. I did it about 6 months ago and got about 10Lbs out of it.
And congrats VT!!

Especially with those long ass arms of yours that definitely counts! Very solid press man! I hope you register that bench in a comp soon! Best of luck!
I wonder how much you guys weigh, those are some pretty impressive numbers for everyone. I’m a little behind though… but I’d like to join the race if anyone else is in.
295 Bench @165 pounds
also added the miss on 315, slipped on the right wrist made me miss the lockout.
Last week of my 2nd 5/3/1 cycle before the deload; I hit 310x8. That hopefully puts me close to 390 for a 1 rep max.

I’m a chubby 220 right now, gonna do my next meet at 198.
As for my bench progress, I’ve backed off the weight considerably (50 pounds off my training max for 5/3/1) and I’m pausing every rep. It’s irritating, cuz I can easily get my paused max for 3-4, but that means it’s something I really need to work on.

EDIT: BP video didn’t link for some reason. I apologize.
Pulled a 365 bench out of my ass today for a +30lb PR. Which is up up 50lbs from December.
^Doesn’t get much cleaner than that.

Sup man haha I recognized the weightroom instantly!
255+140 in chain last night. Was using 2 pieces of soft foam. At least I’m good for close to 400 at the top, now just gotta get that bottom part stronger.

Just curious what your thoughts are on:
- Strengthening the bottom portion of the lift, what are you gonna work on?
- What do you think that lift (255+140 in chains) translates to (in terms of a true 1RM on the bench)?

This of course is the big question. Do I need speed? Do I need strength? What is holding me back? Personally I’m leaning towards strength and technical issues. Lately I’m having trouble getting leg drive off my chest and I’m having issues staying tight in my lats and not getting big on the bench. I’m also going to say there is a weak point in my front delts.
Other lifts - as accessory I have no problem doing 110’s for 8 or so on incline (30 degree) press, able to do 100’s on seated DB Military Press, yet front delt raises I have a problem going over 50’s. DB Flyes I’m able to go 80’s for 10 or so and incline press (BB) able to do 275 for a triple. Assessing this other than my front delt raises I see no huge issues that just stand out to me which of course brings me back to technique (bench is something I’ve always struggled with). -
I did 315 for the first time 8 weeks or so ago, and then I did 300 at this past meet 5 weeks ago (went for 325 and failed but it was a misload (5kg more on the right side then the left so it was more like 337 lbs)). I’ve got nationals coming up here June 2nd, so we’ll see how things transpire there and what this correlates to. That 255+140 chain wasn’t much leg drive which as I said is an issue. I feel like I’m close on getting this down (no problems on DE bench doing it) and once I do things will start moving off my chest better. In my write-up I’ll be sure to put an annotation as to whether or not I think any improvement in my bench is from technique or through strength.
Bump. Anybody make any progress?
In the past few weeks, I’ve hit 375 touch and go and a 380 floor press. I’m sneaking up on it, slowly but surely.
