Totally overpower everything else.

I’d like to have that problem…

Besides his injury in 1980 (which fucked him, he was ramping up hard to compete against Arnold) he did get bigger in the early 80’s.

I would def put him in The top of heavyweight, or bottom of huge.

But really he’s a holy shit in my eyes. So dense.

I wouldn’t. The man weighed 200lbs. 99% of the guys in NPC outdo that today in terms of overall size and mass and they aren’t even pros.

I respect him for his place in history, but people even back then thought he was too small to be receiving the praise he did. If he was shorter and weighed the same it wouldn’t have been an issue.

Huge? Come on. I could see if he weighed over 220 in the same condition, but he didn’t. If he had even waited 5 years to compete, he would not hold the same place in history. He holds that place because back then, even weighing 200lbs like that was seen as super extreme.

True. They make his traps look tiny!

I don’t think Brock got to the WTF stage, as I remember he was just a little more muscular than Bill Goldberg.

Much respect to Zane, but he is the quintessential example of how one’s response to this thread will depend on whether one is picturing the person with normal clothes on (jeans and a t-shirt for example) vs. wearing just the bodybuilding briefs/speedo/g-string/whatever. He is impressive as hell in the above picture but most of that would go completely unseen in regular clothes whereas Dorian, Ronnie, Jay, etc. would still look ri-fucking-diculous in everyday clothes.

Good point… Zane’s visual impact literally depends on whether he’s wearing regular clothes or not many clothes at all…

Zane was a fluke lol… just look how hurtin’ the 77-79 lineup is… compare him to ‘83+ or even 80’ with Arnold and he’d be blown off stage

HOLY SHIT

What? Brock is “just a little more muscular” than Goldberg?

R u serious? I say he is athletic, ripped, works out.

HUGE.

i’m literally laughing out loud over here about people talking shit on frank zane… you’re right, the man CLEARLY had no idea how to build his body. i mean, in my way of thinking, the only real right a person would have to talk shit on zane would be if he had a superior physique (both in terms of quantity AND quality). and i can basically guarantee that no one here can honestly say that… and, despite the obvious size advantage that today’s pros have, many of them still can’t touch him in terms of aesthetics. the man has a place in history for a reason, for fuck’s sake… it’s not just a fluke.

@joe

Actually, bodybuilding is a sport, just like football/baseball/basketball etc… Are you saying I’m only allowed to critique the athletes if I play better than them? WTF kind of messed up logic is that?

first of all, whether or not bodybuilding is a “sport” is certainly debatable… but, regardless, i feel that there is a big difference between “critiquing” someone’s physique, as you said, and simply talking shit. it all boils down to respect, if you ask me, and if you’ve been checking out this forum at all over the past few years, you’d know that this is a quality that is definitely lacking here.

so, to answer your question, you can do anything you like, as this is america… but talking shit about frank zane, when he was/is clearly a phenomenal bodybuilder with a physique better than 99.9% of the people on these forums, is simply fucking ridiculous.

One dude called him a fluke. ONE.

Every one else open stated their respect for him and his place in history.

Get your butthurt in check please.
