my bulk is going well, since January I have put on 32 pounds, of which 20 is LBM.
this puts me at 6 foot 1 and 228 pounds, calipers say im 17% bf on average.
ive gained 0.75 pounds of LBM a week overall for 7 months.
my chest is up by 2 inches to 48, arms up by 1 to 17, and leg is up by 2.5 to 27.
so all is going well.
only problem is my legs have balooned in size and ive gone through 2 new pairs of jeans, both of which have ripped.
i know im going to get a load of:
“what you complaining about? your legs are growing too fast? pff”
but basically i feel perfectly happy with my current leg size. i dont plan to be a monster sized bodybuilder and so i dont see the point in going 28 inches or more.
i feel that im crossing a threshold into a stage when the extra leg size becomes an inconvenience.
so the reason for the post was to :
hopefully give an example of successful bulking…which i dont see enough people reporting on here for my liking.
see if people can give me their feedback on possible similar issues they have had, and any opinions on what leg size would ‘fit’ a 6 foot 1 build in a muscular, but not HUUGE individual?
most importantly im thinking of cutting my dedicated leg days down from twice every 10 days to less, say once a week.
what sort of effect can i expect to see in terms of a slow down of upper body growth due to less overall body muscle stimulation?
im having great gains and i plan to continue what im doing until im 200 pounds lean body mass (only 11 pounds away)
id just like a greater portion of the remaining muscle to pack onto my upper body!
post a picture of your leg, I’m curious what you think is good looking that your legs are perfect right now and that you want to shrink them? Generally you should buy bigger cloths also especially when you are trying to gain weight, instead of skin tight clothing.
Since you were morbidly obese once upon a time, your legs must have had some serious size to carry around all that bodyweight. When you cut down, you must have dropped weight so fast and/or not squatted frequently enough…losing most if not all your leg size. Youre probably gaining from muscle memory at this point. 27" is nothing to worry about. I’d shoot for at least 30" before you begin your cut.
Also if it bothers you from an aesthetic POV, you may need to start building some width on top…not reduce your quad size.
i dont want to reduce my leg size, id be happy with an extra couple of inches…
my primary concern is that im not top heavy enough and too much of my weight is in my legs. my legs are ‘hogging’ the progress.
yeah i was a fat ass and i totally agree on your thinking that my legs were way ahead of the game to start with.
oh and good point about the pre cut size, i forget that i probably have an inch of fat there!
as for jeans, ill be buying a new pair soon, so i guess its gonna be a big set! hell i might break out some of my fat boy gear from years ago !
anyone interested i have a log going in the log section called ‘1 year bulk - with fat!’
im half way through and i have my programe detailed there.
basically i was thinking of reducing the number of leg days i do but i was concerned that the amount of growth hormone(?)i produce will diminish when im not working all the big muscles enough, and that this will slow down both upper and lower body gains.
or is 27 inch legs enough to have been considered to have done the ‘base building’ and can i start “neglecting” them and working towards a more commercial hypertrophy upper body focus?
shizzen sorry im on a laptop so i cant get to my pic files.
my log has some leg shots from a month ago.
and i dont think my legs are perfect, im just perfectly happy with their size (mainly because the vast majority of mankind is walking around with little bones in skinny jeans and proportionally i look huge)

Do you have much problem with stretch marks?
My legs grow fast enough if I concentrate on them that the stretch marks come really fucking fast. It’s a bit irritating.[/quote]
My legs really aren’t that big, 24" I believe, but I’ve got some nasty stretch marks on the bottom on my hams and right around my crotchal-area. It’s really not cool at all, because I had to convince my girlfriend that it was normal for lifters.

I have had them across my knees for quite a while, but of late have got them across the thigh
Yeah, im slightly lowering the frequency. from what people have said i feel that because i have a solid base of overall muscle i can commit the neb’s faux pas of training too much upper body!
I’ve been on a bulk for about 1 and 3/4 of a year, or something to that effect, and I’ve gained 75lbs. My legs are at about 26 inches atm.

If the financial aspect is bothering you; Buy jeans on sale for some time to come. You’re not gonna grow in height, so you should have no problem unless you plan on stopping growing any time soon.
I don’t think I’ve had more than 2 pairs of jeans at a time for 2 years now.
Edit: oh and the stretch marks are present bigtime. I’m getting some in my armpit that are far more visible though.
