Leg Day - Gonna Puke

I just got home from leg day about an hour ago and I couldn’t even fully down my post-workout shake.

I did my squats and was fine.
About 2 sets into the leg press, I start feeling really nauseous. I do set 3 with some lumpy stuff sitting in my throat, but I pull through.
Set 4 is even worse.

I go to do lying leg curls and the machine is on a bit of a decline. I have a decent headache by this point and I couldn’t even finish set 4. I’m lying there with my head lower than my stomach and I just realize that this isn’t going to happen without me puking during this last set in my commercial gym which might result in then kicking me out.

So, does anybody else get pretty sick on leg day? I really felt like shit. I drink a small shake peri-workout. Could that be the reason? I’m getting my first Biotest supplement, Surge, soon to replace this crap powder. Maybe that would help.

I’m just now able to slowly down my post-workout shake. If I did any sooner, then it could not stay there for long. I was trying not to puke for a good while after the workout and just felt dead.

Does this happen to anybody else to this extent? Is it just a normal thing to expect or am I doing something wrong? Should I wait longer after eating to go work out?

i think you answered it already, don’t drink anything except water until your entire workout is done

What about peri-workout nutrition though? I keep hearing that it’s so important.

It’s really not that important. haha

The most important thing regarding actual workout nutrition is getting carbohydrates and protein into your system sometime in under an hour after your workout.

If you’re getting headaches it’s probably from holding your breath on the squat. Make sure to exhale on the way up (same thing with deads).

Stop being a wimp. I threw up in my mouth on leg day last week. Just tough it out, drink water and think about getting stronger. I feel severe nausea and get headaches and dizziness every leg day. You will learn to love it.

I meant this in good humor. But seriously, just suck it up.

Yeah it’s probably your shake. I can’t have a full stomach at all when I work out or else it will interfere with my intensity. A couple weeks ago I upped my pre-workout shake to be a full serving of Surge (from a half service) and had similar issues.

lets take a second and apply critical thinking.

What is more important?

  1. eating food before working out that makes you feel ill and ruins your focus and intensity.

  2. eating longer before you go (for me its 1.5 to 2 hours prior) and getting a killer workout cause I feel great?

When you read things on this site, please remember, they are merely suggestions aimed at optimizing your results. EACH PERSON IS DIFFERENT… try new things, learn what works for you, and go with it. I am trying WSB4SB cause people always talk about it, so far I have found it lacking for me but great for my lifting partner who is less experienced. My previous 3 day split doing 5x5 however gave me killer results… but the point is you never know till you try…

as for eating my meal before a workout i wait at least 2 hours so that most of the digestion in the stomach is complete

I have a shake a little over an hour before I lift. For me, it’s fine, but that’s all I can have. No solid food though. It works for me for now, but I don’t know how well it would work for someone else though.

And for the post-workout shake: if you can’t drink it right after your workout, rest and let your body calm down.
