Left On Broadway

oh and talenaah- yes ma’am, you were right, ma’am, i was ill-prepared and not young enough to rebound like i used to.

;-p

So, not to be all business, but don’t you have a meet coming up? Any numbers in mind yet?

seems like some of the posts i made a couple hours ago aren’t showing up. expanded delay, maybe?

business is nothing to be danced around.

yes, i have a meet coming up. no, im not training for it as often/heavy as i’d like, but it’s my first meet and i have to get it out of the way, and numbers on the board. they’re up and only up, so there’s that.

i feel the need to take the opportunities to work that i have, because i dont know if i’ll be able to when school starts, and im determined to stay debt free without living on ramen.

traning is taking a backseat to work right now, and i’ll be glad when i get back into a more regular routine.

(ok tbh not training as i want to is pissing me off more than i let it show above, but i had to try to get the grownup thing out of the way. it sucks. a bag of leper dicks. not just one, a whole bag.)

numbers havent really been discussed, other than going with easy openers in everything, 135 across the board. i dont have a clue what i’d even try to shoot for, but if i get a 250 squat, 180 bench, and 275 deadlift i’ll be happy. all would be pr’s, by 5, 10, and 10lbs respectively, and that’s really all i want to get out of this meet.

Ah CBear, you know how to make a girlie’s morning good.
Those numbers sound pretty good to me, and rather be optimistic about your first meet than not.

Are you still en route towards the PTA program? Thinking about going that route myself.

Of course g took pictures of that. So funny!

Being a grownup does suck leper dicks, but you are doing the right thing. School loans are no joke when its time for repayment.

You’re going to open at 135 but max at 250 in squat and 275 in DL? Really? Not sure I understand that strategy. In my opinion, that’s way too big of a jump in weight between lifts. Maybe I read that wrong?? Wish I could watch your meet. My best friend is in Cinci, and I owe her a visit. It just so happens, though, that my son’s first day of middle school is the day of your meet. Priorities, you know?

I managed to get through uni without any debts or loans (this was back before student loans, mind you…but pretty much everyone used to get overdrawn and in debt anyway). They key is just write down every transaction in a book. I don’t mean every penny you spend - just every time you use the cashpoint or pay for stuff with your card. (Do you have debit cards in the US? I’m guessing so. I only use mine…I refuse to get a credit card. Credit is the quick way to debt). I am super anal about keeping track of my finances but then it’s always served me well.

Good luck with your meet.

MIM- pursuing a different career path, not talking about it now so as not to jinx it. school is involved, though, so ya’ll will be hearing about that before too long.

nikki- hai!

kimba- he really, really couldnt resist. pegg has been asking when he can post it, and now he has permission!

snap- good questions. while it may sound off, i have NO official numbers on the board. everything, officially, that i get at this point is a PR and im getting only stronger from here on out. i’ll prolly split the difference for try #2, and go for just a few lbs more than my gym PRs for my third. numbers on the board, get it over with, with weights i know i can handle. that’s really all im going for on this one. the bottom line is that i’ll do what my coaches tell me to do.

middle school starts on a saturday?

cal- we have debit cards, and for some fucked up reason, my bank gives me 4 “points” for every dollar i spend using it as a “credit” card rather than debit. the money still comes out of my checking, and i get to redeem the points for cash back or stuff from their online goodiebags. the program “costs” $25 a year, but they lose money on that end. also, if i do happen to use my credit card, i pay off the balance before the statement comes and avoid finance charges.

I was raised to be a stingy, penny pinching cunt. both times i was engaged, i let myself get more involved financially than i should have, and afterwards it took me longer than i wanted to get back to even. i have my head screwed on (more) now, and im not repeating my old mistakes. im actually LOVING all the money saving tricks im finding/using, which ALMOST makes up for missing so much gym time.

i’ll get out of work while its still daylight tomorrow, plenty of time to hit the gym. and the hot tub, if im lucky…

You sound pretty money savvy, so thumbs up. I too am a penny pinching cunt, and the idea of a joint account with a partner makes me shudder with horror. The only time I took out a loan was when I had laser eye surgery. It was a 0% interest one, don’t have to start paying it back until six months after treatment. As it happened, I saved enough to pay it back in full before the six months arrived.

180 bench. you bitch!! go get it, mama.

Good thinking to do what your coaches tell you to do. At my first meet, I just showed up and my coach called all my numbers. Didn’t even know what I was lifting when I stepped on the platform at times, which is just as well the first time around.

No, middle school starts on a Friday. I thought you lifted on a Friday. Then my daughter starts fourth grade on that Monday. So not a good weekend to take off.

Being a stingy, penny pinching cunt is very good indeed. I have credit cards, but view them as 30 days free cash. In other words, they work FOR you if you pay them off every month on time but AGAINST you if you don’t.

We will get your numbers straight woman, and, like I said, you will end up with 3 meet PRs, regardless. Don’t worry! hahahaha

Jason

A little late to the party, I was wondering why my favorite log hasnt been updated.

I saw Korn way back in 1995 with Biohazard and House of Pain, back then they were the tits! They were the opening act (along with Reverend Horton Heat) and they started with Blind, man it was unreal, kids lost their shit, Ill never forgot some jackass took off his belt and wrapped it around his fist and decided to punch some girl in the face who was in the pit, security came late, that girl was layed out…but the concert was awesome.

Oh yah.

cal- ok now im jealous of your laser eye surgery. contacts and glasses still for me, the doc says until my eyes stop changing every. fucking. year.

deja- it was a lockout, not a real bench… starting from about 6 inches (a guess) above my chest. ive hit a real live 170 in the last couple months, so im happy with that, and why im not happy with the lockouts. glad to see u around!

snap- oh forget your kids and come watch my meet. ha!! i always hated that school started in august. meant that i was SO much younger than everyone else in my grade. i was 16 for the first week of my senior year.

pegg- who’s worrying? not this guy!

matty- your favorite log? dont make me post stalk you to see if you say that to all the PW. had i seen a guy punch a girl in the face like that, security wouldnt have been able to do anything except pick up the pieces. assuming, of course, that she didnt do anything to deserve it. if she punched him first, well, she can take it. but still. being knocked out? yikes!

andy- oh hai!

I’m just waiting around for the meeting of the stingy, penny pinching cunt club to be called to order.

BTW, I tried on the True Religions but (1) they were just shy of 200 smackers and (2) my Hudsons fit just a hair better. So there was no opening of the wallet at the Nordies.

HOWEVER, I discovered the best thong panties ever – Hanky Pankys – on deep sale. Cute and hella comfortable.

forgiven. im sure we’re different shapes, anyway. BG happens to be a pocket sized cbear in her build, so the jeans are magic for her, as well. pictures of the panties or they didnt happen.

so, story time then the training post. i had a good night so im all hyper and excited. deal with it, bitches.

  • My gymfriend Bud was there tonight. The regulars may remember Nam Bud as the 60something guy who, when i first started powerlifting, asked me why i was lifting so heavy/trying so hard. unphased by my standard response (I’m a contract assassin, and it helps when i can carry what i kill so that i dont have to subcontract out for cleanup and removal), he happily said, “oh i did that for the government when i was in vietnam!” ever since, he has helped spot, load and unload my plates, and give me general life advice. he’s a goofy mofo, but a good dude, and ive trained him to stay the fuck outta my way when im lifting and that conversation can happen between sets only.

for those who didnt remember/didnt know, that was your intro. so he told me he was just in there to work out some soreness, saw that i was benching, and offered his devoted help. I appreciated having a spotter i trust and someone to talk to so the brotards stay away.

  • my other, semi regular spotter and occasional cameraman is a gym employee, who happened to be giving a group tour this evening. picture a collaboration of people from peopleofwalmart.com. yeah. they came in just in time for my first set with wrist wraps. it was kinda motivating, esp after i heard the gym employee say, “yeah not too many people lift like she does, but she loves it.”

  • bud left when i started my accessory work, which left me with minimal brotard, a few regulars who can take the amt of ball busting i dish out. they find it charming, i guess. some good banter, and a few zingers flew, it was nice. the evening ended with me walking on the treadmill for 10 min (at peggs insistence. was sposed to be 20 but i ran out of time), and my front desk girlfriend carrying in leftover pizza to ask me if i wanted it. while i was still on the treadmill. this makes me lol.

-got home, took my pwo stuffs, and vacuumed the stairs, cleaned up the kitchen a lil, now eating leftover gyro meat and as many blueberries as i can fit in my belly. the berries were on sale in 2lb containers. i bought 2. now i have 3 loads of laundry to put away and another to wash. WHO WEARS ALL THIS SHIT!?

training

YEEEEEAH, BITCHES!

international bench press day:

**work to a 1rm competition setup, use your belt and wrist wraps. 1 sec pause on chest on weights over 130lbs. touch and go warmups."
– barx3, 65x2, 95x1, 115 (wrist wraps), 135 (start 1 sec pause, wrist wraps), 145(add belt), 155, 165, 170.

155 felt like it had some elbow flare at the end. 165 felt like flare in the middle but i tucked and it flew up. 170 had a sticking point where my triceps were sposed to kick in, bud touched the bar, i got angry, and the weight came up. im happy with this because it equals my weight PR from a month or two ago at EFS, with the pause. WOOT! another guy came up to me after 155 and told me what i was doing was impressive. not creepy, just respectful. my ego is fat n happy.

DB floor press-neutral grip. keep elbows to sides, 5x5. increase weight with each rep
–30’s, 40’s, 50’s, 55’s

barbell row- 4x6 moderate weight, keep back close to parallel
–45, 65, 85, 95

front plate raises 3x15
– hold plate in front of you, lower to waist, raise. i hated these. 10lb plate each set.

face pulls superset with tricep pushdowns, no rest. 3x20
–30lbs on the plate stack thingy. whole way through.

DB shrug. 2 warmup sets, 1 max set of 20+ reps.
–i was running short on time and skipped the warmup. used straps and did the 65’s for 20.

hammer curls 1x20 moderate weight
–really, curls? ok, fine. did 15 reps with the 20lb dbs and 5 with the 15. veins in my forearms, HELLO!

10 min walking on treadmill. 3.0mph

done. quit. plan on hot tub tomorrow night.
