Lee Priest Squat Training

It’s true that it’s not a “true” squat, and your poundages will not carry over, but the weight you put on it is true weight throughout the ROM… PLUS 25 lbs for the leverage arm.

Depending on the location of the weight, the load actually on the shoulder is not what is loaded on the machine. Weight that is forward of the shoulders will be partially loaded on the pivot (this certainly includes the weight they custom added to this machine). In addition the load is on the shoulders is actually going to vary slightly throughout the ROM because the horizontal distance from the pivot is changing.
I placed a scale on the footplate and did a squat without weight. Throughout the entire rep, it showed 25 lbs more than my bodyweight. Thus, the arm weighs 25 lbs. My shoulders were snug under the pads where the horizontal and diagonal pads meet. In that position, the weight bar was just to the front of my shoulders. So, like Josh just said, it’s very similar to doing a front squat. And because the footplate is forward and at an angle, the weight is balanced and distributed throughout the spine evenly. Quite a comfortable position once you get used to that “lean back” feeling.

To reiterate: As an example, 200 lbs on the machine is a true 200 lbs, as the scale has shown me, but because of the angle of action, there is much less stress on the back, so it feels lighter. And because of this, you can squat more weight, but certainly cannot carry that same weight over to free squat!

lol

load on as much weight as possible and repeat with the scale. I will guarantee the arm weighs more than 25 pounds. showing the bar ads 25 pounds doesn’t show that the weight all added weight is going to the shoulders. In addition when the weight distribution of the bar isn’t uniform (when you add plates) there will be a small % change in load throughout ROM.

I was thinking the same, clearly Lee doesn’t know wtf he’s doing and should go deeper!

I was kind of hoping for a back or front squat vid, ya know. Deceptive thread titles be damned…

Still, I’m hoping that either Lee or Dave will win the 202 at the next O…

My scale doesn’t go that high. lol

I see what you’re saying, DD. But as clear as that seems, I can’t figure out what effect the angle of the body has in that regard.

I need a physics expert.

hes right. i remember that strongman guy(not his name tho), he was like 300 lbs, 28 years old, looked healthy to boot. At the WSM comp like 4 years ago, hes fuckin deadlifting 800+lbs on a cart for reps(added kegs). heart attack at 28 yrs old.

yet in the news the other day, this guy in france was like 120 years old, when asked what his secret to life was… he says “fine whiskey and wild wild women”
Wrong…

Ok, so he had heart failure due to an enlarged heart. I said heart attack. I never said anything about steroids or any other drugs.

This is a prime example of EXACTLY what priest said. Jesse Marunde died in his 20’s from something he couldn’t control, and My grandfather has a belly and drinks beers every day at 82 years old.

I don’t see the problem.

Actually, I found this quite interesting. It has nothing to do with squats, but its lee priests take on lifestyle.

His forearms are no joke!
