Larry Wheels Powerlifting Comeback Meet

Yeah, but he had no problem squatting to depth. The attempt selection is usually strategic (few WRs set through dumb luck alone) so by not pushing the squat too hard you will save a lot of energy for bench and deadlift. You could watch the video of Kirill’s ATWR total to see what I mean. If anything, Larry should have gone heavier on bench, it looked easy and he was only a few pounds away from the full meet bench record. Based on his opener, a 900 DL seemed like a fairly safe bet, it just didn’t happen.

I was being overly optimistic. He needs to sign up for a meet with a big cash prize, maybe that will give him the right sort of motivation.

Honestly this isn’t a terrible idea. I mean he makes his living from social media so I get the motivation for the “stunts”, but he could use some fake weights, keep things realistic, stay safe, and actually be able to focus on semi-intelligent training. 90% of people wouldn’t know the difference and any accusations of fake weights would just drive more traffic to his social. Seems like a win-win.

I was actually wondering if his recent shoulder and ankle injuries weren’t just stunts. Imagine the headlines: “Against all odds, injured Larry Wheels breaks the ATWR!”.

There are a few people I follow on social media, and Larry isn’t one of them. He’s a guy who you are better paying no attention to outside of an actual competition.

I think he can take it. I understand the allure of making money with stunts but There’s a few guys out there though that hold no records, put out informative content and get a lot more views than him. And they don’t risk injury.

I went through and jumped around looking for all his attempts because an hour video is dumb. Really annoying the new youtube algorithm.

On his 2nd squat it was hella issues with set up so his 3rd was 25lbs under his planned low 3rd of 860. (something a longer prep could have probably helped).

Had he hit that then something like an 880 deadlift might have been there for the record.

Legit he could just put the real weight at the bottom of the lift and still get dem viral vid views. He can step up the stunts Brad castle berry style with the fake weights on all kinds of strange lifts while going strong and staying disciplined on the real weight

I watched the whole video and found it quite interesting, nice to watch him through the whole day of competition, and even nicer to see him doing PL and not an arm workout (I skip his BB videos)
And yes, his 2nd squat seems to have messed up quite a bit with his day, surprising how he nailed the 3rd squat after that.

Just another of the many tales of BS that seem to be common knowledge to everyone but JG (who recently said that he had no idea why I cut off contact with him -lol)… some people need to protect their little bubbles of delusion from the outside world.

As to Larry, the guy is a phenom, who hopefully is able to make money from whatever he does, and avoid destroying himself in the process. It’s a cruel sport (BBing and PLing, and I suppose also social media) and no one cares about you when you’re not on top.

I guess thats why they do it.

The better question is WTF in Pounds.

I really hope he takes another 8 week prep (or way longer) while maintaining this weight and takes another shot at this. His Squat might be near 900 and his Bench would probably be an easy 650.

It’s interesting you wonder why RPS is in pounds and then proceed to discuss Larry’s lifts in pounds.

I feel like that makes the answer obvious, haha.

Everything is bigger in the states.

900 will always sound crazier than 409.090909

I dunno that’s a lot of digits

LOL I almost put in KGs!!! The reason I am using Pounds in this scenario is because he just competed in pounds.

It also means less distance between milestone lifts. You hit 650, then 700 is the next target, 50lb gain. You hit 250kg and next obvious target is 300, a 50kg (110lb) gain.

I now feel better about tagging my log with metric

Do people aspire for the 50s? I thought people either aspired for some multiple of their bodyweight and/or even hundreds regardless of unit.

It’s not as a big of a milestone, but it certainly counts. I’ll certainly be pleased when I hit 750, not waiting until 800 to celebrate. lol

I’d forgotten about bodyweight mutliples as a milestone. My target for next weekend looks less random now, its exactly 4x BW if I just make weight.

The joys of having an elite status I suppose
