DL looked solid. Whang.
Thanks mort! Hope to practice this new technique more.
Following along, I too just started doing 531. Good luck!
Nice to have you man. Sadly, there won’t be much action in my log until November or so. Do you have a log on here?
Also, if you’re looking for a really good 5/3/1 log, I’d take a look at @samul 's log. The dude’s a beast!
Started my log here about a month or so ago. Will definitely check his log. Lots of strong people here!
Saw your log. I see you’ve got some good people chiming in already. You’ll be in good hands. Should you run into some questions about the program, tag @bulldog9899, @chris_ottawa, or @T3hPwnisher to name a few. They know the program really well
Thanks man. Thinking of running the 3days/week beginner template like you did
If you want to get more practice/frequency with bench and squat, it’s a good template. You’re moving more weight than I am though so you might want to cut back on FSL for the second main lift be it squat or bench. Doing squat 5/3/1 + FSL and bench 5/3/1 + FSL right after might be hard to recover from because you’re moving bigger weights. But if you’ll recover just fine, then why not. Just also don’t forget to use a TM for OHP that’s based on what you can do AFTER deadlifting and not based on a TM where you only dif OHP.
That makes sense. The problem I see with this is the squat rack is always occupied. I’m thinking of substituting the Friday squats with Front squats. I may try the other beginner template where you do 55%-65%-75% when the bench/squats is the 2nd lift if this gets too much.
Can’t work in? But yeah, doing Squat and Bench 5/3/1 + FSL afterwards can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour. But personally, part of it is because I take my time resting so sometimes it’s 5 minutes before the last main working set for example…the whole workout can take 1 hour of occupying the power rack. I’m just lucky most of the guys in my commercial gym train gym bro style so the power rack is rarely used at the times I go
Sexi glute activation cuing brother
Just trying to learn from the glute master himself. I think I finally understand that knee/hip pump you were talking about
Don’t remember but ok
Lol here
6 October 2019
5/3/1 Maintenance phase
Squat 80, 90, 102.5 x 5 (RPE 8.5), FSL 2 x 5 paused
These felt heavy, but I think I should have pushed the last set for sake of peace of mind. Oh well
Bench 42.5, 50, 55 x 8
Pullups 4, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2
Ok I kinda cheated on the first rep of these. Had a little help with my foot to take off
Barbell row 40kg 3 x 8
Focused on keeping my lower back flat here for the Deadlift so wasn’t concerned with the weight
Lifted in the garage-turned-gym so not much machines to do accessory work. Weights were in lbs too so they’re not exact. Also ran out of time
New technique stuff…well, first time I’ve come across that slight hinge first then squat down technique. Interesting
Hey @chris_ottawa curious about your thoughts on that - the hinge a little first before you bend knees to initiate the squat
Sure, why not? It’s not what I do, but if it works for you then go ahead.
Nah, maybe not…always good to hear more tips on bracing though
Depends. Some people take the bar out the rack with their back angle set ready to go for the entire squat. If you take it out different and have to “find” it again then that approach works
Good point. I do already have a little hinge when I take the bar off. Maybe it was just a little exaggerated/emphasized in the video for demo purposes
