L5 Lumbar Stenosis/Spondylthesis

I noted with interest how many others are continuing to workout, heavy weight training etc. It’s interesting as this particular diagnosis hits all in different ways, apparently many folk simply do not get the classic painful symptoms, and the guy next door may be having a bloody awful time with such pain that they have to cease training while they focus on hitting the more severe symptoms.

I’m 53 now and diagnosed with the subject line about 6 months ago. How many of you guys actually are still pulling and pushing big weights? There appear to be 2 camps of thought. First, sod it nothing gets in my way, and second careful considerations of the consequences of getting it all wrong.

Back pain is unique to everyone which is a major reason why it’s difficult to diagnose and predict. Like you said, some will have structural pathology with no symptoms while others will have no visible pathology and be completely crippled. With a spondylolisthesis and canal stenosis your big issues are going to be the grade of the spondylo, degree of canal stenosis, and the severity of your symptoms.

I hate to say it, but I don’t think big weights are in your future regardless.
