What you described isn’t self-defense and wouldnt be viewed as such by anyone with common sense. If he ‘came at you with aggression’ you could stand your ground and yell back. If you waited til he threw the 45 and THEN threw a 45 yourself, now that’s self-defense…
Actually, its really not. Self defense only comes into play when you have no other option - including run the fuck away.

So, somebody chucks a plate at your head, and you decide to wing one back, and seriously injure them, you aren’t getting away with a “it was self defense” plea. Stopping someone from hurting you is self defense, attempting to hurt someone else because they attempted to hurt you isn’t.
If he’s reaching for another 45# to throw at you, it is. You’re not the only one here who watches “Law and Order” on occasion.

See above, re: run the fuck away.
So you want me to turn away as a 45 is flying towards my head? I will not, sir. I will stand face to face with my adversary and throw 45s until one of us falls. Or maybe I will grab an empty barbell and catch the plates as they come at me until it is loaded up with 4 plates per side at which point I will throw the 405# barbell at his neck and decapitate him for his insolence.

“Live for nothing or die for something”. And I will stare down any judge who dares to sentence me to time for this behavior and, God forbid that judge does sentence me, I will rise from the grave to exact my revenge.

After you decapitate him with 405, will you proceed outside, shirtless and rip a stop sign out of the ground? Cause I think other than farting yourself to the moon, that is the only thing that would make that story and more awsome.

Why would I do that? It’s not like he was legally cock-blocking me.

I’ve been on a site for too long when a joke from years ago can still get me to laugh, every time i hear it. Reading posts here can be like talking to my friends from high school

There’s always a bigger fish.

And that fish might carry a gun.
