Kidney Problems

Hi Everyone

I was after some advise.

After getting a few blood tests done and an ultra sound my doctor is sending me to a kidney specialist (uraloligist)spelling?

Now my creatinine levels are above normal range and have stayed the same over a 3 month period, nothing serious but my ultrasound showed what my doctor believed to be a build up of calcium.
Now after doing some research i looked into this and found that this could mean i have kidney stones or some other kidney disease.
Now i dont have blood in urine,no burning when i piss or anything like that just a dull ache in my lower right abdomen.
The doctor says i might even need a kidney biopsy, meaning that they stick 4 fuckin huge needles in your kidney’s to get samples :frowning: Im booked in for mid october to get my kidneys checked out

My question is what could i do to help my current situation, will diet wise be of any help? should i drink shitloads of water? i heard magnesium and vitamin b6 help break down calcium in the kidneys.Ive cut out all of my supplements eg-vit c multi vit Doxycycline.Ive done 3 d-bol cycles in my time, nothing hardcore just 20mgs daily for 6 weeks at a time.
Im 25 240ish pounds with no history of any kindney or medical conditions.

Has anyone elso had this problem?
I could use some good advice

You may want to drink some OJ, according to this recent Reuters article I found on the NIH website:

http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_26506.html

This may sound unconventional but i use it everytime something on me acts up and it goes away for good or a long long time each time. I feel the body can heal itself with minor issues that obviousley don’t require surgical intervention.

Take a 5-7 day fast. Basically you go a week with very little food and plenty of fluids, in this case natural unsweetened cranberry juice and fresh vegetable juices. This works as it takes the load off your body and gives it a rest from constantly processing food, you entire GI tract gets a chance to recover, as do your kidneys, liver and if you have higher blood pressure, watch it drop like a rock. Anyway that’s my way of doing it through trial and error. Have fun, this is VERY commonly done in Europe. 2 day fasts are very common place.

My brother in-law had the same thing, found out later it was stones. My suggestions is, like you said drink plenty of water and also cranberry juice. Don’t take any supplements i.e. protein powders, vitamins, you know stuff like that. Hopefully it’s just stones. But keep us posted man, hope everythings ok

As having experienced giving birth to kidney stones through my penis, at a very predictable guess I would say you may have kidney stones.

Reflecting on my episode of this continous dull ache, whereby it was sustained on a flight from Amsterdam to Singapore triggers the following flashbacks:

*Requesting pain killers from the air hostess for the “foodpoisoning” that the airline had just inflicted onto me.

*Given Quickeze for the “indigestion” that she said I had.

*Frequenting the lavatory for unproductive results.

*Foetal position on floor of plane.

*Five days in a Singapore hospital.

*Spitting out blood and sand from my …

I guess the previous three weeks to that particular departure made up for the anguish.

Get an xray and that should determine the extent of the calcium buildup and the location. If they are stones, the treatment methods that could be used are lazer or pneumatic hammer device/gadget. Both procedures are routine whereby the lazer you are awake and with the hammer, you want to make sure that you’re put to sleep due to the entrance of this particular device.

The cause of my calcium buildup arose from overactive parathyroid glands also referred to as hyperparathyroidism. If I remember, these glands regulate the production of calcium which ultimately is excreted through the kidney.

After this experience I put on 10kgs onto a 85kg hard gainer frame. I guess after everything was slowed down I was able to keep and maintain the efforts of training and nutrition.

This is just my experience, maybe a bit dramatic, but it was on a plane! I’m sure your physicians will sort it out quickly. The male equivalent and understanding of giving birth is not an experience you would want to endure.

All the best.

Here is some good advice.

Talk to your doctor. He should know best.

If you are not getting a full answer, or he is not helping you to understand the situation, then you will need to find another doctor.

Also going to another doctor couldn’t hurt. (Second opinion, etc.)

Some other things your should know. Are you taking creatine? Creatine will increase the levels of creatine in your blood giving a false positive to these kidney tests because they test for creatine. (In fact this is why they thought creatine might be bad for the kidneys. It wasn?t.)

Next avoid high protein diets for now. While high protein diets do not cause kidney damage, it can make it worse if you already have kidney damage or disease.

Stones are a pain, but now they have ultrasound machines that can break up stones so they are easier to pass. Be sure to read the above link posted by Panther1015. (Someone obviously didn?t.)

Regardless work with your doctor, learn as much as possible, and make sure you are the one in charge. All final medical decisions rest on you.

Good luck.

I wonder if the D-bol had anything to do with it? I have no idea, but in the future you might want to respect your body a little more. Taking drugs to get larger muscles is probably not the best thing to do for long term health (hey I had to start out with a lecture…I’m Zeb).

Now let’s see if I can help out!

From a wholistic stand point I think you should drink Beet juice. Take in two 12oz glasses per day.

Beet juice has a healing effect on the kidneys. It tastes bad and you might want to mix it with apple juice, but it has worked for others in the past.

You can also take the following herbs which have a healing effect on the kidneys: Juniper berry, Parsley, Ginger, golden seal root, uva ursi leaf, marshmallow root and cramp bark.

You can find the above in any quality health food store.

Good luck,

Zeb

Yeah i know Zeb,ive been a bit down on myself thinking the d-bol could have helped to have caused this,id rather have heathy kidney’s than bigger muscles with acne

Anyway, thanks for all the advise guys, ill take it all on board.Funny how beet joice was mentioned. When i went to my chiro recently he couldnt stop talking about the benifits of beet juice, says it’s one of the best thing,s for the body to cleanse it.

About the cranberry juice,i was reading that high levels of vit C can help contribute to the kidney stones,nw doesn’t cranberry juice have shitloads of Vit c ???.
I wouldnt know that’s why im asking help from u guys.

Thanks for the kind words.
Much appreciated.

HHH: check your red blood cell count, when on anabolics it can raise your red blood cell count (HGB)increases thickening your blood and causing your bone marrow to produce calcium and causing a toxic effect to your liver and kidneys. If this is the case look up thick blood on the internet and it will reveal that donating blood can assist in reversing the thickening of the blood as well as reducing your iron level which are probrably also high. check your HGB levels (hemoglobin)and find out how to bring it to normal ranges and possibly assist you in your dilema

HHH,

Dude - I have no experience at all with kidney stones or any of the symptons that you talked about. Best of luck with everything though.

I do have some experience with Beetroot juice, though. If you start out with large doses of beet juice, you will throw your guts up!!! It is a juice that you must start with smaller amounts and build up to 2 12 ounce glasses. I would start out with a 5 ounce glass in the morning and in the evening. After a few days, put another one in the middle of the day. Then after a few days increase the size of the glass to 8 ounces. If you jump into this and drink a shitload straight away, you will feel sick in the guts.

Best of luck.

HHH,

What were the results of the tests? How elevated were the BUN and creatinine?

BUN and creatinine are both influenced by muscle mass, as well as high protein diets, high meat intake, creatine supplementation and exercise.

If your values are not significantly elevated, and they have been consistent over time, it may not be a problem.

Regarding calcium deposits, magnesium citrate can help to prevent calcium from precipitating in the urine.

Also, a complete list of supplements and meds would be useful. I’ll have to check and see if doxycyline has any effect on these tests.

Keep me posted.

Take care,

Ryan

Hi Doc

Regarding the test results he and i were looking at the computer screen with my results and my creatinine levels said 12 or 1.2 something with a 1 and 2 in it  “lol” sorry i didnt really understand what it all meant, but it was the one he was a bit worried about.
We talked about muscle mass and how it does increase creatinine levels,im 240 pounds so i consider myself more muscular than the average joe.
The meat intake u mention is interesting, ill fess up i dont eat hardly any vegetables at all, maybe some broccali(spelling) evey now and again maybe some carrots but apart from that no veggies :frowning:
So im basically a meat and chicken eater plus i have had my fair share of creatine powders.Ive stopped taking creatine for about 6 months.

But a list of supps ive taken over the past 6 months would be:

Vit c 1000mgs daily
iron tabs 1 every other day
multi vitamin daily
vanaydl sulfate
phsillium husk (fiber supp)
zink drink(containing zinc and magnesium)
shitty balance creatine(u know the one with extra suger)hey cmon it was cheap :frowning:
docycycline roughly on for 6 months
Panadol for the occasional headache

Thats what ive been taking recently.

The funny thing is all this started to happen when i caught a cold say 4 months ago, even since then thing’s have gone downhill, but since ive started to down water by the gallons ive felt a lot better.

Thanks again for your help everyone.

LOL it kinda matters, dude. A creatinine of 12.0 is quite a bit different in clinical significance from a 1.2!! The BUN number would be also helpful for the good doctor to help evaluate your labs. Kidney failure is nothing to play around with. If you have a creatinine of 12.0, you have major problems. A 1.2 is on the upper end of normal to barely abnormal, depending on the analyzer that we use to measure it.

Most people dig their graves with a fork. Get that through your friggin heads.

The idead of NEEDING 5000 cals++ to gain muscle, showing down tub after tub of powders, eating ever 2-3 hours. Common, loading up the body with so much continuous shit can’t possibly make it easy to function properly and it’s just a matter of time before something pans under the stress. But hey, I’m completly wrong and eating the calories and powders with the ammounts and frequencies suggested by “studies” is OK.

Wake up people. The food industry is one of the biggest pushers of shit for you to stuff down your hole in QUANTITY. And it’s the QUANTITY that gets you in trouble.

Screw science, Gregus says eating regularly will lead to digging your grave with a fork.

Chances are your perfectly healthy and your elevated creatine levels are exactly the result of what you’ve already pointed out yourself. The lots of meat and no veggies diet.

That fasting idea might be good, I wouldnt say 7 days, but 2 seems logical. Give your body a chance to get everything cleared out and just feed it the stuff known to help kidneys. Plus if your 240, I’m sure the doctor might assume you have done steroids in the past giving him more of a reason to further check you out for your “bit higher then normal” creatine levels. But I wouldnt get too worried, seems like whenever someone shows any sort of health concern people automatically jump to the worst case scenario.

Oh, and whats with the Iron supplement? Guys dont need much iron at all, you probably get plenty in your typical multivitamin or whole foods. Ide drop the iron supplement.
