Sorry if this has been mentioned before, 22 years old, just got bloodwork back today, everything’s fine except my GFR (Glomerular Filtration Range) of 73 is a bit low. Now it’s technically not a problem unless it’s below 60, but it’s declined from 83 in June 07’.
Since 07’ I’ve started to seriously get into weightlifting. I’ve probably doubled my daily protein intake (250ish grams a day), as well as added multiple servings of BCAA powder per day, glutamine and creatine, etc.
My mom’s a nurse and overreacted of course telling me to drops the supp, eat less protein, but what do you expect. My question is, is a GFR of 73 anything to be concerned about? What’s your guys’ GFR? Just a little worried, kidney function is important shit, obviously. Thanks for any input.

This is why a nurse’s job isn’t diagnosis and treatment. Interpreting specific test results and determining specific courses of action is not in her scope of practice.
hey man I had a similar situation. I was told that my kidneys werent functioning at 100%. I had recently started taking creatine and stopped, retested 3 weeks later and had completely normal results.
MODOK- that made a lot of sense, thanks for clarifying that.
Grergon- yeah just noticed your thread, I was taking creatine when I got the work done, too. I’ll usually use it for a month every third month or so, so my gains from it don’t plateu. I’d be curious to see my levels now that I’m not taking it.
On a side note, I just noticed yesterday that the Whey protein I use, “Elite Whey”, has 5 grams of BCAAs and 4g of glutamine per serving. I was already taking 5g of BCAA powder before and after workouts and 5g of glutamine after. Therefore, when I had 2 scoops of Whey after workout out I was getting 15g of BCAA and 9g of glutamine! Besides being a huge waste of money, this had to be further lowering my GFR.
