Kettlebells

Anyone using Kettlebells? What kind of routine?

I do mostly swings to warm-up as well as Turkish Get-ups and snatches.

You can easily find vids on YouTube. Jeff Martone has some good ones, especially of him doing TGU with his wife as the weight.

You can find a bunch of stuff by Mike Mahler at his website http://www.mikemahler.com/

I wouldn’t bother paying for his online e-book - most of the info is given else where on his site if you don’t mind digging it up.

Pavel’s book 'Enter the Kettlebell" is pretty amusing but pricey and most of the same info can be found online for free. Some of Pavel’s articles can be found at the Dragon Door website.

I recently got a couple of kettlebells for Christmas and I’ve been playing around with them. I’m not using a program, just doing swings and snatches to augment traditional barbell work. I really like using them though and plan to start working them more often. I also received Enter the Kettlebell and liked it a lot.

Been using them for several years and believe you can get VERY competent by reading around and watching youtube vids.

Get the basics down - the ‘grinds’ or slow lifts such as military presses, kb squats etc and the ballistic exercises such as the swing and snatch.

Bear in mind that lifts done in competition have a more relaxed form designed to maximise reps when compared to someone who is say - using kettlebells to improve speed or rate of force development.

Check at the Dragondoor site for a instructor near you. Getting some good instruction can save you a lot of time of trial and error learning the movements, and a great instructor should also be able to identify imbalances and help you fix them (or you can start reading stuff by Eric Cressey and Mike Robertson; check the store link on this site and look at past articles, etc).
