Kettlebells: PLate Loaded vs. Traditional

I’ve been interested in kettlebells for some time, but have always been put off at the price and the fact that I will keep needing to buy new ones (which get even more expensive.) But I read about plate loaded kb’s on the web. According to what I read, you put the plates you want on, so you can easily adjust weight to 5 lb. increments. But I also read that plate loaded kinds have disadvantages. Only the article didn’t say what those disadvantages were. So I was going to see if anyone out there had any experience with plate loaded kb’s vs. traditional kb’s.

I have an 18,26,34,and 53lb Kettlebell which I bought from Mike Mahler. I have never used the plate loaded version but the KB comes in contact with your body during snatches and other movements and I would think you would get pretty banged up. Go for the real deal you will not regret it.

Try PMing Mike the Bear, he has both solid, and adjustable KBs.

Just to remind you weight distrubution will be diffrent with plate loading. So if you are doing something specific keep that in mind.

I love my traditional kbells. They are great and come highly recommended. I woud definitely recommend them over the plate-loaded kind. Mike Mahler has used both and can tell you why he switched from plate-loaded to the traditional kbells.

The Plate loading kettlebells suck to be perfectly blunt. They bang you up like crazy. If you cannot afford the real deal, then just stick to dumbbells.

I got some plate-loaded ones for Christmas, I tried them, hated them and returned them. I was about to order a 53 pounder at Dragondoor, when Coach Davies showed me the ones at Detroit Barbell dot com. I am ordering a pair of the 8" kbs from them today, along with some other toys

Alright, thanks a bunch for the info guys. I like the hollow ones on detroit barbell but figure it would suck having weight slosh around in it while I’m training. So I’m going to break down and order some from Pavel, damnit.

You are going to order from “Pavil the evil Russian.” That is one great marketing job he has done! You have to hand it to a guy who comes here from Russia with nothing, and is now a multi-millionaire! And he does it, at least in part, by selling kettlebells. Whahahaha.

Only in America!

Yea, Zeb, he also knows his stuff. Not sure why so many people knock this guy.

ILCazzo,

I am sure that he “knows his stuff.” I have no problem with the things that I have read from him. I think he is very sharp.

My point is, there are many bright coaches out there. We have read from a few of them right here on this forum. I would hazard a guess that none of them are worth what “Pavel The Evil Russian” is worth.

Why? It’s called marketing. It’s not that he is better than Coach “A”, it’s that he has packaged and promoted himself better. In the media age, that we live in, you have to stand out from the crowd in some fashion to be memorable.

I don’t know if “Pavel The Evil Russian” created this image himself, or hired a top notch advertising firm. Either way, I don’t knock him, I admire him!

Understand?

Anyone have any stats on how many kettleballs that Pavel has actually sold?
