Ketosis Frustration!

How the hell do you check whether or not you’re in ketosis?
You use Ketostix. You can get them at any pharmacy.
vroom wrote:
Did I read the size of your carb-up meal accurately? How often are you doing that?

Way back when I did some ketogenic dieting I found it took two or three days of very strict eating to get into ketosis. That is about the time that the ketostix would start to show ketones.

Make sure you don’t have old expired ketostix or anything like that.
If you were talking to me vroom then yes, you did read the size of that meal correctly. It’s actually two meals, so on those days I have 5 meals rather than 4. And its the last two meals of the day. For the carbs I usually eat two cups of oatmeal at each meal. It comes to just under 200g of carbs for both meals combined.

I wanted to follow CT’s Refined Physique Transformation, but thats some crazy ish. 150g of carbs every 14 days, I mean, I can easily do it no problem, but I’m just afraid that once I’m done cutting, and start carbing up on weekends, Ill slowly regain the weight.

But again, are carbs really the problem? or is it really a question on calories in vs calories out?

Filmmakerr; only thing that will happen when you carb up again is the you will retain some water. Carbs does NOT make your body store fat.
New researched has showed that carbs is not the reason why people get fat. Overeating, more calories in vs. what you spend is what makes you fat.

TP, that is indeed true. Its been well known for awhile, cutting carbs is just a different approach.

Following a CKD/ANABOLIC DIET isn’t just about low carbing, its about high fats, high testosterone, and optimal muscle gain.

At the end…Cut=Less calories, Bulk=More calories, eat pure lard, you’ll still lose or gain based on calories.

Dude, you need to chill. Stop freaking out about ketosis. You will still lose fat, are you losing weight, right? Stick with it and keep losing it.

Dude chill out. Forget about getting on Ketosis by the keto stix. You are still losing weight right? Keep at it and keep losing it.

Use body fat calipers and a weight scale to measure your fat loss.

From the article yesterday looks like T-Nation was reading your mind.

but just the fact that I don’t FEEL fat adapted, I mean, I could easily live with 70% fats, and 20-30% protein, I don’t even NEED a carb up, I don’t crave carbs anymore, even though I do have a carb up now, just for mental reasons, and body shocking.

if I could find out for sure I was fat adapted itd be awesome.
This may be one of the signs that you are fat adapted. I too, feel I could live forever and never need another carb. Seriously, I get no brain fog and as long as I get protein and fat every 3 hrs, I’m cool.

They should invent some ketostix like device to let you know when you are fat-adapted, I would like to know how you know when you are fat adapted as well…

This is true. Once the fog goes away you are definitely adapted. The carb ups play an important role though. Don’t skip them just because you feel you don’t need them.

Yep. When I started CKD, I had the headaches, brain fogs, felt lethargic, but none of that comes in anymore after carb ups. I figured I just made my body get used to not getting carbs, didn’t think of it as being FAT adapted…

One time after I went nuts on the carbup, I actually felt worse on that Monday. Nowadays I carb up with clean carbs and only for 1 day.

Agree to an extent. 75% of your carbs should be clean, but 25% can contain some not-so-good items as long as you don’t go overboard. I definitely agree on the one-day deal. I typically limit my carb ups to 24-28 hours max.

just to let you know bro:

4 days of keto dieting eating and moderate cardio (no weights yet, training is t-th-s and I tested on ketostix, no luck. But I’ve lost ~4lbs (probably all water) since I started and I don’t feel hungry anymore and I’m in a bit of a brain fog but not much.

Same boat as you bro =D

cool man, update me on your progress. I’m going to follow CT’s tranformation diet, see how that goes. Ive got a hard time choosing a good workout plan while in calorie deficit though. I’m kinda weak.

It is a questionable product that doesn’t work for everyone.

Here’s an idea: just pick something that appeals to you and go as hard as you can on it.

man you sound a LOT like me. I’m going to Film School, I’m 20y/o, 200lbs and 25% bf as of my last test.

I’ve tried what was a keto diet (didn’t know it was) before, and it helped me drop weight, but looking back I wasn’t in ketosis. I’m starting a keto diet this coming week, so I’ll let you know if I have the same problem as you.

Bro, I wish I was your weight, I’m 270lbs (123kgs), 6’ and 23%BF. I can not get rid of the front muffen top or the under arm tit fat (my lats make this stick our even more, it’s really embarissing)!!!

I sit on about 100g carbs training days (70% at breakfast) and 70g on non-training days, about 250g-270g protein per day and approx 2500-2900cal per day.

How does the ketoses help, sorry very new to the concept.

Aussie

All ketosis does is make you burn fat for energy.

On a low carb diet, its good to be in ketosis because then your brain fog goes away, also don’t feel much lethargic during the day.
