I looked at it from “Would I be happy without this person” and the answer was no. We’ve been married 18 years. Dated like 6 months before proposing. Lived together for 3 of those 6 months. Had known her for many years prior.
We’ve worked hard to make it work and every day is not happy puppies and flowers. So…the important thing to think about is it’s a lot of fucking work to have a happy marriage. Is the person you’re thinking about marrying going to work as hard as you to stay happy?
More concretely, if you have a college degree, I wouldn’t recommend marrying someone without one and vice versa. I basically wouldn’t recommend marrying anyone outside of your socio-economic group. If you can find someone you’ve known all your life also that helps. You don’t have to deal with ‘her friends’ and ‘your friends’…everyone already knows everyone.

Nonsense, I never claimed it was the answer for today.
I claim that it was the answer for specific cultures which, as RajRaj pointed out, was quickly smashed the moment women closed the wealth gap.
I have no problem if women have equal chances and opportunities either, I am just saying now that they have them it is up to them to determine what to do with that freedom and I dont see them having found a working model yet.
What I see is them following some of their basest inctincts regarding procreation and getting all worked up if there is no man willing to bail them out if that goes wrong.

My parents and basically every 40 plus member of my family (through blood or marriage) has had an arranged marriage.
While I can’t speak on the happiness of their marriages, I can say all their marriages except one have lasted decades.
My parents marriage is pretty solid, they get along great even after 25+ years together. The only caveat is my mom basically rules my dad even though he contributes 95% of the household income.
