I believe the obesity comment was a joke, but “fatass” looked like a reference to the very large stomachs of today’s very large pros, which are for many people quite unsightly. So not to say that they have the body composition of someone obese, but rather a distended stomach of similar girth.

Most of these guys aren’t looking like that on stage at the Olympia. If you are talking about Kai’s off season appearance, I really have to wonder how some of you are gaining if your stomach looks stage ready all day long, all year long, no matter what your meal frequency is.
He’s 300lbs and eating pounds of food every 2-3 hours. I have never seen someone at that height, that filled out and if you guys can point out the “obesity” in these last two pics it would be greatly appreciated.
Boo fucking hoo, guys who weigh 300lbs don’t look as dainty as someone 100lbs lighter. That is a far cry from the statement I responded to…and I assume that poster can speak for themselves as well.

You also forgot the mention that it is pretty damn hard to keep a super tight waist if you are squatting and deadlifting 500+ lbs for 10+ rep sets. Your abdominal wall can hypertrophy just like every other muscle group. Some guys have wider waists and part of that is genectic and on top of that you can’t expect to get your shoulders and legs wide/huge while keeping the waist size you had at 150 lbs. And as Prof said a lot of the distention is from the sheer volume of food these guys eat, and most of them don’t try to fully empty their GI tract until right before a show (I remember hearing Toney Freeman acutally gets a colonic right before a show to help with this).
And to stay on topic I think the O is Kai’s to lose (by that I mean he should win as long as he shows up “on” and all the political bs doesn’t come into play), assuming Jay has made no major improvements over last year.

Didn’t he fix that by signing with a different sponsor a few months ago?
Not that this is a new revelation or anything, but damn are Kai’s legs huge. His hammies pop so much in that rear shot as well.
Hes a GD gorilla. I swear, kai is like, the missing link or something…

It is truly awe inspiring…which I am sure pisses off people who think anyone much over 220lbs needs to tone it down. For his height, I don’t think anyone has come close to that. Ronnie was about 3 inches taller at the same weight.
His back is ridiculous.

I agree. If both guys hit their mark, I think Kai has better separation and detail. I also think that Jay’s best conditioning doesn’t match Kai’s. They’ve both been up and down over their past few shows though, so we can only hope they both come at 100%.
Right around now is when Jay dropped the bomb that was his pre-contest pictures last year though, I’m waiting for that spree of competitors throwing up their test-run photos here so we can get some more hype rolling into the O.
I can appreciate that when you have 6lbs of food in your digestive tract you’re going to have some bloating and stretch your stomach. I’ve experienced my scaled-down share of this. And that high reps of heavy weights will expand the abdominal muscles - this too. I assume the enormous amounts of injected hormones also play a significant role.
Such an enlarged stomach may well be the unavoidable price to pay for carrying over 150lbs of solid muscle at under 6’ and if so - fine, but it’s not going to help the image of the sport and it’s certainly going to precipitate facile comments such as “look like a fatass” from the ignorant “creatine is a natural steroid” majority.
On-topic, I think Kai looks fantastic in the photos and it is always a pleasure to watch videos of him either speaking or performing. He’s a very charismatic ambassador for the top level of the sport, which it arguably needs.

I think what some forget…is THEY SAID THE EXACT SAME THING ABOUT GOLDEN AGE BODYBUILDERS. No one in 1960-1980 thought guys like Arnold looked normal. They were freaks, garnering some of the same bullshit remarks people are giving Kai.
The difference is, these new guys think that Arnold was more accepted because of his movies…when it is quite the opposite. I am positive more people follow Kai in bodybuilding and understand the goal than there were people who were true fans of Arnold back when he was competing in the 60’s and 70’s (it was a true underground sport back then).
Just like those guys, 30 year from now, people will be claiming they long for the good ole days when bodybuilders were only 300lbs like Kai.
Also, Kai may have more than just 6lbs of food in his gut at one time seeing as how he can throw back a whole cow in one sitting…which is why anyone judging him in the off season because his stomach isn’t cover model flat is way off.

Well I just saw Jay today at World Gym San Diego, and while he had a shirt on the whole time he was looking pretty massive. His calves were showing and based on that I’d say he looked dryer than Kai at this time.
That’s one of those critiques that I don’t understand when we are talking multiple weeks(heck even days) out from a show. Being dry is not important except for the two times we see the guys on the stage.
Fullness and dryness among other qualities just don’t matter. Body fat levels and muscle mass are all that can be determined from these sneak peek photos.

Ya last year it’s wasn’t Jay’s condition and dryness in his 3 weeks out or w/e photos that ‘shocked the bb world.’ It was the way he had turned one of the most notorious thick/blocky waists into this tiny, fantastically tapered connection of the wide flaring torso and huge legs he has always sported.
I am anxiously awaiting the next few weeks buildup to the O for a similar type of ‘leak’ from a competitor(obviously Jay will not be able to shock like last year, but it was the best example).
Can’t deny insulin is a large factor in why some pros have big guts, food in the belly is one thing, come the day of the O, nobody is eating or drinking much at all and you still see guts…it’s most likely drug induced.

Bodybuilding overall needs to go back to the old days, I’m tired of looking at these mass monsters coming in at 280lbs on stage with a 45 inch slin/gh gut. Guys are killing themselves to get up to these ridiculous weights and then having a hard time getting down to contest shape (i.e trey brewer), just for the sake of saying “oh i was 310 in the offseason.” Maybe they shouldn’t come in so lean as well, but as long as the fans continue to demand these monstrous guys that are shredded it will continue to be this way. I really hope bodybuilding can get back to the classic physiques which were truly beautiful instead of these blocky creatures they now call a bodybuilder.
Dude, your post would fit in if this were around 2002, but there are just too many guys who do have that X-frame winning lately to even write what you did.
They are cheering on Ced McMillan, not Markus Rhul, to win the O in the future.
That last vid you posted is also a little off. They were often catching off season bodybuilders and making an issue of their stomach not being flat. Guess what, when you weigh 280lbs or more and are eating POUNDS of food every 3 hours or so, your stomach won’t be flat unless you go several hours with no food and start dieting for a contest.
Yes bodybuilding is starting to realize its flaws and I’m very glad guys like Ced, Ed Nunn and Toney Freeman are starting to win over guys with huge guts. I very much so realize that its impossible to keep a tight waist at that weight, that’s why as I said bodybuilding should go back to the old days and penalize the guys who obviously don’t have a tight waist and I think we would begin to see the beautiful physiques again.
Not everyone has the same goals or inspiration that you do. People like Kai Greene keep me motivated, just like Silvio Samuel, Coleman, Dennis James or Branch Warren. Those are the guys whose videos I have at home. I don’t have training videos of people who are way less developed than I am.
You talk about your EGO right?

I’m sorry, but how the hell could you possibly have a problem with me not watching videos of people who weigh up to 100lbs less than I do?
Yes, that makes you one of the ridiculous people for acting like my own goals need to fall in line with what you think is acceptable (or else, why would you think that decision marked some issue with “ego”?).
I watch training videos of people who the look the way I would like to look for motivation to get there. Why would I find the same motivation in someone who had not reached the same level?
Your post made sense to you when you first posted it, huh?
