Kai at 9 Weeks Out - 297lbs & Lean KABOOM!

I don’t know when that picture was taken, but I met Kai Green at the Europa expo yesterday. He said he was 270lbs. Very nice guy, actually.

I really hope bodybuilding can get back to the classic physiques which were truly beautiful instead of these blocky creatures they now call a bodybuilder.
Dude, your post would fit in if this were around 2002, but there are just too many guys who do have that X-frame winning lately to even write what you did.

They are cheering on Ced McMillan, not Markus Rhul, to win the O in the future.

That last vid you posted is also a little off. They were often catching off season bodybuilders and making an issue of their stomach not being flat. Guess what, when you weigh 280lbs or more and are eating POUNDS of food every 3 hours or so, your stomach won’t be flat unless you go several hours with no food and start dieting for a contest.
Yes bodybuilding is starting to realize its flaws and I’m very glad guys like Ced, Ed Nunn and Toney Freeman are starting to win over guys with huge guts. I very much so realize that its impossible to keep a tight waist at that weight, that’s why as I said bodybuilding should go back to the old days and penalize the guys who obviously don’t have a tight waist and I think we would begin to see the beautiful physiques again.
Not everyone has the same goals or inspiration that you do. People like Kai Greene keep me motivated, just like Silvio Samuel, Coleman, Dennis James or Branch Warren. Those are the guys whose videos I have at home. I don’t have training videos of people who are way less developed than I am.

Shawn Ray Looks awesome there.

Well as diced as Jay and Branch came in last year, he has no choice.

His back wasn’t as lean as anyone else’s in the top 6. He had some water or fat or whatever in his lower back.

I just hope he doesnt F up his timing, kinda like how Wolfe Did last year, ya know? Hes looking good now, but can he sustain it and continue further?

Wolf looked like total shit, poor guy.

He just stood in back and hung his head like someone ran over his dog.

I read somewhere, who the fuck knows at thsi point, he had some injury issues and couldn’t really train right at all. (This wasn’t from him though, just a rumor I gather) and blamed his prep guy.

I’ve seen some pictures where he looks much better than he did in the videos.

Lol bit of a stretch to say he looked like total shit, MR. Condescending! But yea i heard he was dealing with some injuries aswell. Personally, id like to see Wolf do well just because of his nickname, Dennis “The Big Bad” Wolf. I mean, that screams epic lol

LOL, I’m not hating at all when I say this, but he looked sloppy as hell in pre-judging.

However, those of you writing that the competitors shouldn’t get as dry as they do for health reasons need to stop bullshitting. If you like the 6% look over the 3% look than, ok, great, but this health crap is ridiculous. Bodybuilding isn’t about health. It’s not necessarily healthy to be 290 pounds of muscle, either.
There are far greater health consequences due to the last few weeks of contest prep than ANYTHING these guys do the rest of the year. Diuretics use is far more acutely dangerous than injectible anabolics.
That’s all well and good, but what are the alternatives? Penalizing competitors for coming in too shredded? Can you imagine the clusterfuck of judging that would result?

For a while, they tried “banning” diuretics from competition…but they didn’t really enforce it much (even though Jay Cutler was busted once but I think he fought it) and since the judges kept awarding “grainyness”, competitors went right back to using them.

Like has been stated, I doubt any straight guy gives a flying shit about “ripped glutes”. Just like those posing trunks, a few things need to change.

Sorry, but when he’s talking about physique from the old days, he’s referring to the likes of Arnold, Shawn Ray, etc.

Why do you even go talking about “training videos of people that are way less developed than you are”…or is Shawn Ray shit compared to you?

You are a very smart person and do know a lot about bodybuilding and the sports itself, but I think you are also too arrogant for what you have “accomplished” in this sport.

Take it for what it is

Are the speedo like posing trunks mandatory? if so what year did they become mandatory and the old style trunks became disallowed.

probably a dumb question.

I remember a few contests in the mid 90’s where they found guys in the upper placings at major shows test positive for diuretics. As such, the placings were adjusted upwards (individuals were disqualified and everyone moved up a spot). Cutler, as far as I know, was the only competitor to threaten a huge lawsuit, which made the IFBB back down and not do anything as a result of his positive testing.

Yep - that is THE most dangerous part. I mean, look at the deaths - due to dehydration, or electrolyte imbalance…remember Momo? Sad shit…pretty much died right backstage.

But whether or not anyone cares about ripped glutes, does the alternative of penalizing guys for being too shredded maked any sense to you?

Because, to me, that is the only alternative if you don’t like how ripped these guys get.

Good point, Lanky. This “sport” is about extremes. Actually, most sports are about extremes. Specific to bodybuilding though; the biggest, leanest, driest, most “complete” and proportional physiques will usually win. Health and fitness have nothing to do with it.

Pushing the limits of how much muscle, and how little bodyfat is the goal. Striated glutes is just the “by-product” of that equation. There is no going back now. Striated glutes is a “must have” if you plan on winning any contests…health be damned.

Once the standard is elevated…there is no turning back to the days when “soft” hammies & glutes were acceptable. Mo muscle, mo muscle, mo muscle! Leaner, drier, more shredded! Cramp-up or have IV replace lost fluids back-stage is part of the deal. Momo and Munzer…R.I.P.

How can the discussion of his weight and leanness take place sans shoe?
