Just Started HIIT Training

Quick question- I am basically new to this HIIT training method and doing 45 sec sprints followed by one to one and a half minutes of low intensity training for about 15 minutes on the stationary bike.

However, when I sprint my hr gets to around 180-185, but when I slow down my heart rate doesnt drop below 170.I am going as slow as I possibly can on the lowest level setting on the bike by my hr wont go any lower in only 1 min.

Am I doing this the right way or is my hr too high for this type of workout?

Lower your work interval time, under 30 seconds, and make your rest time 2-3 times your work interval.

Examples are 20 sec work/40 sec rest and 15 sec work/ 45 sec rest.

The most effective intervals for fat loss have you doing 30 or 60 seconds of high intensity, followed by 60 or 90 seconds of “active rest” or moderate activity.

I do HIIT but I haven’t really paid attention to how low my heartrate gets.

I get it up to 180 and then it goes down to about 165 before I start up again.

What is the optimal difference between the work and the slower part?

Im addicted to HIIT!!! If Im not doing it 3 days a week I begin to crave it!

Currently I do 20minutes on the bike, alternating from level 1 to level 9, in one minute intervals.

My heart range starts at 101 (this is after a 5 minute warmup walking around the track and stretching for 10 minutes); on level 1 it’s about 140 and on level 9 shoots up to roughly 160. Overall, the average heart rate (according to the Bike’s calculations) is 145.

For 1 interval, I am doing 1 minute 80%-90% of my heart rate then 1-2 minutes walk. I do this for 8-10 intervals.

Quick question, is what I’m doing more effective than jogging 5km for 25-30 mins without rest? Before I used to jog 5-10km for 30-60 mins. Just wondering which is more effective in fat loss. Note that when using HIIT, I only cover less thank 5km total distance depending on the amount of my intervals.
