I am not up on HIIT, but a 45s sprint and 2 min walk seems off to me. I was under the impression that it should be an all out sprint (or close to it) for more like 10-15 seconds followed by a 1 minute walk. The 20 minute time frame seems right.
A 45 second sprint sounds incredibly painful.
As for nutrition, I do not treat it the same as a regular workout. I follow a similar plan you do; pre and post BCAA/EAA, but not during and no ‘normal’ post w/o shakes.

Hey brother, I noticed you are starting HIIT and thought I would chime in.
As part of the Physique Clinic training, I am doing HIIT. Here is how the coaches had me going:
30 seconds @ 80% sprint
4:30 second fast walk/slow jog
=5 minute sets
I would do between 35-55 minute sessions. I then progressed up to 60 second burst, 90 second bursts and tonight is my last night at 120 second bursts.
Give this routine a try if you are trying to shed fat. Its working for me and its super challenging.
Hell, next week I’m at 2:30 minute bursts, 2:30 second recovery. [/quote]
I think this makes more sense; especially for those just starting out. I think that many people starting out try to use to short of rest period so give up or get overtrained on HIT programs.
I personnally like a mit (medium intensity) interval program using something like a fast jog (just short of a sprint) for 1:00 to 2:00 intervals followed by walking for around 3:00 to 5:00 minutes.
I must say the cardio time of 35 to 55 minutes seems a little much when combined with a lifting program; however, if the interval intensity is kept reasonable (no all out sprinting) and the rest periods are kept on the longer side; it might still work with a lifting program and be good for fat loss. I personally like to keep my cardio to 25 minutes; but thats what works for me.
