Just Havin' Fun!

Hi fellow older, but wiser people.

I am a week away from a 2 week vacation so decided to just relax a bit in the gym and make some stuff up on the spot…this is what I did:

Monday - Upper body session…10 different exercises for chest, alternated with 10 different exercises for back.

The weight used was whatever I happened to pick up so reps ranged from 6 to 35!

No rest between exercises - just alternated agonist/antagonists eg Push ups, chins ups, dips, bent over rows etc.

Finished up with a few sets of arms.

Tuesday was legs, so did pretty much the opposite and performed 10 sets of 5 squats, then 10 sets of 5 dead lifts and a couple sets of high rep lunges to finish me off.

Thursday - was feeling a little mentally challenged so went super simple so just did 100 reps of power cleans. Took 35 minutes from start to finish not including warm ups. Started of doing sets of 5s, then 4s and by the end, down to sets of 3s. Rests were long enough to grab some water and chalk my hands.

These 3 workouts were fun! And lets face it, work outs should be or why bother.

Tomorrow will be sled dragging day…need to come up with some interesting challenges for then tonight!

Will be going back to a more structured routine but I really enjoyed just playing for a change.

No real point to this post other than to share a few workouts with you guys and maybe inspire a little freestyling in your own sessions from time to time.

Pat.

I’ve been running backwards while walking the dog…

sounds good to just mix it up a bit. I’ve been doing a 4 day on, 1 day off routine for well over a year…Day 4 is an arm day and that’s the one day I don’t go in with any set idea of what I’m going to do. It’s good to mix it up, have some fun. That’s what keeps us sane and coming back to the gym all the time!

After a break from the gym, whether planned or not, I always start the first week back with a ‘do whatever you want and have fun’ attitude. It’s a great way to get back into it and build up some endurance without the muscle soreness that can come when you try to pick up where you left off. I love the effects that weight-lifting has on my health and appearance but I do it because I truly enjoy the challenge of the sport.
