I’ve been slacking on my nutrition lately. I think I’m also sick again. Typical. Over the past year or so it seems that I get a cold/sinus infection and then get on antibiotics. About 7-10 days after I finish the meds I get sick again. It’s stupid. I don’t feel terrible but I don’t feel good and I barely slept last night. I think the drainage kept choking me and waking me up. That’s the only explanation I can think of. It seemed like I was just lying in bed and resting the whole night instead of sleeping… except for when it was time to get up! I slept great from about 5:40 to 6:30. My second alarm was supposed to go off at 5:43 but I forgot to turn it on. I set the time, but didn’t tell it to go off… idiot.
I’ve spent the morning picking up extra part-time jobs. I think I’ve settled on my next tattoo and it’s going to be pricey so I’m justifying it by working more. I picked up three more baseball games. Two of them are next week which gives me four for the week. I’m trying to dump one of the weekend games because working Friday and Saturday night is a bit exhausting. The way it stands now I’m working Monday, Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Next week alone should cover the tattoo ![]()

Well, I’m sick but I don’t know if I’m sick enough to go to the doctor. My sinuses burn and I’m sneezing a lot - which hurts. I think the biggest impact is on my appetite. I guess my stomach is full of drainage.
I threw in the towel and went to Immediate Care tonight. Luckily I’m sick enough for meds. Augmentin and Prednisone are on the menu for the next 5-10 days.

I can’t believe it’s June already.

I’ve been inconsistent with my creatine use on non-lifting days. This drainage has also killed my appetite. I think I had about 2100 calories yesterday.
This morning kind of sums up the world in which I work. I was on my way to a call where I was supposed to check for an individual who left the hospital. He was suicidal and they got a court ordered hold on him after he left. On the way to his house I drive past a guy sitting on the porch, dancing, and drinking a 24 ounce Miller High Life. It was 7:57am.
Unemployed people who drink and smoke all day, every day. Weak minded people who cry suicide eight times a year to get attention. These types of people make up probably 75% of our call load.
I work with the same population, but not as a first responder. I think we start getting desensitized because it is so hard to see and deal with the same stuff over and over again. Nurses and cops have a really bad burn out rate.
I try to keep in mind that SOME of these people truly are mentally ill, and when you add in poor social supports, poverty, cycle of abuse and upbringings that often promote addiction and abuse, these people often do not stand a chance. Put in the same situation, I am not sure how many of us would manage life without some of these issues.
That being said, sometimes you shake your head and feel frustrated, knowing that you have no impact, and that you will see these people, or those in the same situation, over and over again.
I currently work with someone who has been in the system for 33 years. Had he gone to jail for his crime instead of being deemed not criminally responsible due to mental illness, he would have been out in a few years. However a personality disorder and systemic institutilization has turned this person into a monster. Working with him on a daily basis causes me the same frustration that you have suggested in your post.
All in all it us so hard to work with people who have no desire or motivation to help themselves.

I’m feeling pretty good. My sinus cavity still burns and my throat is sore. It’s day 1 on prednisone. I should be good as new by Sunday or Monday. The good thing about getting prednisone for a sinus infection is that it will also help the rest of my body’s aches and pains!
Dont be surprised if you have some water retention, and increased anxiety with it.

As you can see, there was a theme tonight. Everything was harder than Monday. It was a combination of the gym being hot, lifting after work, and taking 15 sec less rest than Monday. That meant 85 sec on squats and 45 sec on everything else.
The progression from day 1 to day 2 is to decrease the rest and do the exact same workout. I was wishing I’d increased my rest Monday so that today would’ve been normal rest.
