Unknown morning weight. It’s been dark and cool in my room and I’m really struggling to get out of bed in the morning. Once I do I’m kind of in a fog for a bit.
I planned to go run this morning but called it off due to being a lazy ass. Part of me wants–no, not wants but knows I need–to run for conditioning purposes. I’m not too concerned about general health. If that was the case I’d just use exercise bikes and ellipticals. But I know I need to have the ability to move my legs in a fast manner for work. But I’ve also never seen a bulking program that has running added to it. Most of them actually warn against it.
I think I’m going to settle for extended warm-ups that include some tempo runs or build up to a sprint. I’ll do those a couple times a week and might throw in a bonus conditioning day on Tuesdays. It’s tough to not go to the gym on my day off. At the very least I need the alone time. I tend to be grumpy by the end of the day if I just sit in the house all day with the kids.
Here’s to a Sunday of sitting on my rear! Thank goodness basketball comes on at 1300 hours today. I’ll sneak into a Captain’s office and watch that to pass the time.
Having alone time is extremely important for me too! I need to clear my head and not think about anything that has been stressing me. If I get at least an hour of time like that I’m good to go again. The only thing I seem to get done lately is obsessively cleaning because I can’t do anything else. My workout music is now used scrubbing the toilets fun times!!

Well, I’m back and I survived. I spent about an hour and 12 minutes total lifting and I didn’t waste any time. I definitely spend some time bent over with my hands on my knees trying to recover. That awesome nauseous feeling made its appearance after the fourth set of deads and hung around for most of the session despite my efforts to avoid it. I had a shake with half a cup of ground up oatmeal in it and ate Starbursts during my session.
10.5 MINUTE DYNAMIC WARM-UP
So I went to the East Y instead of the Downtown one today. It was a nice change of pace but their track is 11.5 laps per mile. It’s three lanes wide and there were about 15 old people doing a circuit and taking up the outside lane and another 5-10 meandering around and getting in my way. They’d get in front of me on the inside lane and block the whole freaking track. After three laps of jogging I got fed up and moved to the basketball court. I did some running down and back and before long my legs started to feel like I was doing a workout so I had to stop and get to the squat rack.

I’m still chasing my goals of 3/4/5. I pulled 5 plates last June while dealing with my hip. I’ve benched 295 & 300 but never 315. I’ve never been close on squat. I’ve power cleaned 315 once.
Aside from getting back to normal I’m hoping to repeat my deadlift and power clean PRs and knock out bench this year. I’m a long ways off from squat so that may take longer.
I’m also 10 years younger than you and I’ve never stopped training!
So I may beat you to 3,4,5? There is hope for my old ass yet.

Woke at 231.8 lbs. I may have overshot my 1.5 lbs per month goal (gaining). Oh, well.
Today is going to be a bit painful. I’m sore and I can tell it’s only going to get worse for the next day. I reread CT’s article about this workout and he says not to do anything on off days. Rest, mobility work, not much else. That eliminated my running plans today. I wasn’t going to do much but I’m going to listen to him and sit on my duff. The Y has a new foam rolling class so I might see if they offer that today.
