Just. Don't. Suck (Part 1)

The other reason to buy kg plates is because they make more sense.

CONDITIONING - 3 ROUNDS (5:24)

  • 3 jumps
  • 10 tire flips
  • 15 push ups

I’d hoped this would take longer but three rounds was enough. I probably shouldn’t have done so many tire flips with my cranky elbows. Note to self - less tire flips, more rounds.

@Voxel, I don’t think my daughter has been exposed to any negative body image stuff yet. She’s pretty fit, even a bit muscular, which makes her the minority here in the good ol US. She attends a dual language magnet school where they teach in Spanish and English. The school is mostly Hispanic kids and the few white kids in the school seem to be teachers’ children. Sadly, there are a lot of pudgy kids attending the school. If she ever gets teased then it’ll be because she’s thin and they’re not.

I had this when I did the floor in the basement. The kids were just a year old and with work and watching them, I ended up starting each night at around 9-10 and getting an hour or two in. I couldn’t use a the saw in the basement, because the kids were sleeping by then, so it was also measure, head out to the garage to make the cut, check the fit, over and over.

Had my neighbour help with the baseboards. He’s a fireman, so of course had extra time to have a side job doing basements/renos.

They all seem to have that, don’t they???

Ours work 24 on and 48 off. Apparently they don’t like their free time as much as I do because just about every one of them has a side gig. We have an airport here and they have Airport Police. It’s the same retirement so some officers occasionally transfer out there and learn how to be firefighters. They work 24 on and 48 off, too. During their shift, they can be police or fire or both (for eight hours at a time). It’s basically a way for a cop to become a firefighter here.

One of them used to work in my Bureau. He now has three side businesses!

For sure! I’m not sure what schedule they work here, but side jobs are common, from what I can tell.

I remember when I was doing my deck, he was going to give me a hand framing it (he’s actually a super nice guy and help me a bunch for free, just being a neighbour). I passed his house at about 0800, after a night shift. He was outside and I knew he had worked nights as well, so asked if he wanted to meet up later after he got some sleep. He said it wasn’t needed, because it had been a slow night and he had slept all night

I remember coming across another fireman at a collision and he had actually been a cop for 10 years before switching over. He said he had some friends who were firemen and he’d hang out at the hall. When he realized what they did, which was basically nothing, he switched over.

I’ve got more stories like this, which I’m sure you do as well! The one good thing is our retirement/pension set up is different and I can retire earlier, so I’ve got that.

That’s a good set right there. :+1:

If ours didn’t respond to all the medical calls then I’d be tempted to switch. Some of them are busy all day.

Thanks, that was a rep PR! I’m not sure if I still have 500, but I’m as strong as I’ve ever been with reps at these weights so I’m happy.

Is this a thing in some places? I just noticed on my city’s website, under the job postings, that there were applications for “Firefighter/EMT” and “Firefighter/Paramedic.” (I don’t know what the difference between EMT & paramedic is.) I figured it was maybe because my town is relatively small so they just combine the two jobs but you’re in a kinda big city, aren’t you?

They send Fire and EMS to all medical calls. Fire usually gets there first.

They’re combined in some small cities. I live out in the suburbs and here fire runs the ambulances as well. They alternate shifts on the ambulances and trucks.

Well, @littlesleeper, I guess I’m a liar. I just looked at Bodybuild the Upper / Athlete the Lower and it’s very similar to Beefcake for upper body days. I guess I’ll just be trying to run that program as written (I might even try the whole Leader and Anchor thing for a change). It’s going to be tough to squeeze in all the running/conditioning. Leg days call for prowler work but I don’t have one. The substitute is hills sprints to the tune of 1000 total meters. The sidewalk across the street from my house is on a very gradual slope and I can fit 100 m sprints in that space so that’s what I’ll be doing. I’m probably going to have to do two-a-days to make this all work. Running during work just doesn’t work out well. I can use the work gym and use the treadmill but that will only handle the upper body days where I’m supposed to run 1600 meters.

But for now, I have to finish this cycle of PR sets with BBB on upper body days.

Meant to train today but SHTF at work.

Well, today didn’t go as planned either. My wife got her second Covid shot yesterday and she’s sick as a dog. She hasn’t got out of bed all day and it’s almost 7 pm.

I’m currently at my daughter’s running practice. I managed to run a mile in 9:27 and then ran six 100s at the blazing pace of 18-19 sec each. My legs are sore and don’t like running. My breathing seemed alright on the slog but the 100s hurt.

It’s so depressing to run almost flat out and hit 100 in over 15s

I’ve never tested my 100m but a girl with a 14min mile (Mine was 7min) beat me in the 50m dash in pe once, now that’s embarrassing

Luckily I wasn’t running all out. It’s been a long time since I sprinted so I always start out at about 80% effort. It’s the only way I can maintain any form.
