Congratulations! And good luck to your wife. Growing babies is much easier when you are younger

Forget deadlift records, having/raising 3 children, at any age, seems way more impressive

Hey man, that’s great. A new car is a really wonderful blessing, and your family will love it for years to come. The baby stuff is cool too.

JK, big congrats to your fam. I’ve got a tiny bit of experience under my belt now, and can now actually relate to the excitement, haha.

Thank you, all!

It’s probably strong, but it is annoying throughout the day.

My wife isn’t worried. The world is quick to point out that arbitrary cutoff of 35 years of age. Lucky for us (or her), my wife isn’t average. I figure she’s more like the average American 25 year old, or better, in terms of physical fitness and health.

It’s going to hurt, for sure. Unlike mothers, I don’t exactly love the 100% dependent stage. I’m hoping this one is like our daughter. She came out on a normal schedule and started sleeping through the night by two months. She was so easy! I’d stay up til 11pm to feed her. My wife would get up at 6am to feed her and we’d alternate the 2am meal. That gave me a decent night of sleep every other night.

My son was the opposite. His schedule was backwards and he stayed up all night. He slept through the night for a couple months and then tortured me until he was 1.5 by waking up twice a night for no reason.

So far my wife feels like she did with our daughter so we think we’re getting another girl (she felt pretty good with our girl and awful with our boy). I’m perfectly fine with that.

Nice progress you have there buddy. Keep it up. I’m going to follow this thread for more updates. :grinning:

Huge congrats! I’m as happy as an internet stranger can be for you and your growing family. Wishing your wife an easy pregnancy and safe/healthy birth of your child!

Did I skim over the due date? Am I biting my nails in anticipation, or are we 6 months away?

Edit: It appears I did skim over the due date, which I see now.

We are a llloooooonng ways away. We haven’t even been to the doctor yet. That’s why I wrote the thing about internet folk. It’s pretty early in the game to be telling people - I guess there’s some arbitrary thing about waiting to tell people.

It’s too exciting (even if I’m in shock) to keep it a secret.

To confirm that my body was off, my fancy Garmin watch told me I was stressed about 30 minutes after I quit lifting. My HR was cruising in the upper 70s. I’m back in the upper 50s now but that’s higher than my “resting” HR.

3.22.21 C5 W1 D1 - Deadlift

I’d like to run Beefcake, but I’m not strong enough. I don’t think the 5th cycle is a good time to start doing BBB with FSL weight. I’m going to fight through this cycle and reset my TM for the 6th cycle.

OUTDOOR WARM UP

PUSH UPS
35, 15, 15
BAND FACE PULL
Black x 20 x 3 sets

DEADLIFT
185 x 5
275 x 5 feeling heavy…
290 x 5
335 x 5
390 x 10 That was no 395 x 12 but that was fun.
335 x 5 x 3 sets Settled on 3 x 5 with SSL.

HANG POWER CLEAN
170 x 3
195 x 3
220 x 3
195 x 3 x 3
These felt heavy thanks to the deadlift workout. I’m trying to get close to the BBB Beefcake program. I’m not ready for 5x10 with FSL weights and it seems that 3x5 with SSL weights (and a PR set) ruin me for cleans. The original program doesn’t add cleans to the mix so I’m going to rethink some things. The cleans might replace the SSL work. I’ve been progressing at a nice rate without any extra leg work.

The BBB Beefcake program is designed to build strength through the BBB sets, but I’m just not there yet. I might use the BBB Challenge to build myself up, but I’ll wait til I reset my TMs to give myself a fighting chance.

At the risk of offending you: this is bullshit, dude. You 100% are.

Take a deload week and find a conservative 5rm, or even 6rm, for your TM. Take longer rests between the BBB sets. Eat like a fucking horse.

Use your power clean work as the “jumps/throws” part, or do it after the main lifts and accept it’ll take a small hit.

I’ve done Beefcake before (or, better said, a Leader/Anchor cycle with First Set Last 5x10 weights), and while it’s hard, it’s completely doable. It’s what finally got me to 315x5 on the squat and 405x5 on the deadlift after not being able to break 300 on the squat and being stuck at 405x1 on deadlift.

You. Can. Do it.

Yup near enough the same as my immediate thought.

Don’t get in your own head.

Yeah man I’m thinking the same thing here

@Frank_C get your napkin on and take a big slice of beefcake my man. You will own that shit into next week

I appreciate the vote of confidence, but my TM is approaching its ceiling. I’m due for a reset but I want to finish the five steps forward before I go backwards. Looking at my TM for next cycle, BBB with FSL might be doable. I need to start with week one weights instead of week three weights.

For now, cycle six has begun and hitting five reps on my PR sets in week three will be a challenge.

This is why I suggested if you want to tackle Beefcake, taking a deload to reset your training maxes would be wise. If you want to finish up your 5 forward, 3 back, then ignore Beefcake for now, because you’re gonna want to make sure your TM is accurate.

I don’t think many people wait til their fifth cycle to add BBB sets. I’ll be going back to my second cycle weights for the next round. I think the Beefcake parameters are within reach with those numbers.
