This workout looks way more tolerable than the previous ones.
It was supposed to be 1 minute of chin ups with bench but I gave up my pull up bar when I swapped racks. I thought 30 sec each of DB rows sounded like a good substitute. They sucked! I would’ve preferred to just do 8-10 heavy reps like the previous chest/back sessions.
Let day looks fun - 15 minutes of squats using sets of 5 followed by deadlifts and bike EMOMs.
This.
It’s easy for me to get overly focused on physical life, and lately I’ve been really convicted about leaving my first, foremost love - Jesus.
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:8
My human brain keeps getting stuck on the world. I’m glad Paul wrote this.
Romans 7:15-20
15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. 18 For I know that good itself does not dwell in me, that is, in my sinful nature.[a] For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. 19 For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. 20 Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
I feel like I spend way too much time in this zone. Obviously I know what is right and what I should do, but apathy or laziness sets in and I don’t do it. God’s mercy and forgiveness to me is a double edged sword. Knowing that I am forgiven gives me comfort as I know my evil self. However, knowing I’m forgiven allows me too much freedom. I’m not sure what that says about me. Thanks for sharing your faith as it is bringing me to a crisis of faith and back to the lord. You should know, I’ve read my bible each training session while I warmup since you challenged yourself to spend more time in the word. I know each of us has struggled recently, but God is using you even through this forum to reach people.
How do you time stuff like this? Trying to pay attention to my watch or something while doing a movement is annoying to me
That’s awesome! A little while back I started forcing myself to “buy in” to my lifting sessions with cardio. I’ve changed that to spending time with God. Truth be told, I’m doubling up by watching a video while I warm up on the elliptical. If you’re interested in a daily video, my church is doing something they call “Noah’s Window”. Here’s a link to their YouTube page.
They started it when churches shut down. They stopped for a bit but people liked it so much that they started it again.
It’s simple. I set a timer on my phone and placed it on the floor where it was in my line of sight. I did rows until I wanted to quit and checked the clock. I had about 10 seconds left on each set. I also only timed the first arm and then just matched the reps with the other arm.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18
New Living Translation
16 That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are[a] being renewed every day. 17 For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever! 18 So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.
Today’s word while warming up. The short version is that we will be rewarded greatly in Heaven for our pain on Earth. Pastor shared this right before conducting a funeral for a mother and four children killed in a car crash. Life perspective.
HIIB Vol 2 Day 2 Legs
I finally completed a workout as scripted!
SQUAT
5 reps per set
135, 165, 195, 215, 235, 255, 225
AIRDYNE
Actually did 15 seconds instead of 12 calories. I hit 12 calories in like 4 seconds.
DEADLIFT
315 on all sets. Double overhand on first six sets. Alternate grip for final two.
Love this workout. I don’t think I’ll do it weekly but I’ll come back to it. Lifting time was about 40 minutes.
Looks like an enjoyable workout.
10.25.20 HIIB Vol 2 Day 3 Shoulders
OUTDOOR WARM UP
7:15
4 Rounds
2 minutes rest between rounds
MUSCLE SNATCH
115 x 5
125 x 5, 5, 5
RING KNEE RAISE
15, 15, 15, 15
Rest 5 minutes
4 Rounds
Rest 2 minutes between rounds
PUSH JERK
135 x 10, 10, 10, 7+3 (grip failed)
RING PULL UPS
8, 7, 6, 5+3
Extra
PUSH UP PLANK
1 minute x 3
The rings destroyed my grip. I used straps on the fourth round of push jerks but it didn’t matter. I dropped the bar after the 7th rep with no conscious thought. I was supposed to do one minute of toes to bar with muscle snatch but that’s nuts. I was supposed to do a minute of rowing or the ski erg with jerks but I have neither. I figured I might as well do pull ups since I was outside.
I’m loving the verses you’re posting ![]()
Reading this made me smile. This is such a great feeling. Nice job J.
10.26.20
It’s a good thing I did my overhead session yesterday because it’s snowing today. We’ve had about an inch and a half fall so far and it’s going to snow most of the day.
Today is supposed to be a rest day but I’m going to do the chest/back workout because I’m off work. As usual, I’ll be modifying a lot of it because I don’t have the space, equipment, or strength (burpee box jumps, handstand push ups, dips).
For the time being, I’m going to sit by the fire and drink coffee. My leg DOMS has drained me of all energy.
Had anyone else posted this I would be pretty confused. You are doing it outside?
Only the shoulder stuff. There’s no good substitute for jerks or muscle snatch so I hauled my stuff up the 8 stairs and out the side door. Lucky for me, that door is right at the top of the stairs to/ from the basement.
I actually knew that, was just posting it so that others were on the same page.
HIIB Vol 2 Day 4 - Chest
Volume 1 was always chest and back but there was no back work today…probably because I was supposed to do rows yesterday.
WARM UP/CONDITIONING
Elliptical x 20 minutes, 1.51 miles
E3MOM x 5 Rounds
AIRDYNE
20 cals x 5
DB BENCH 10-15
70 x 15, 10, 8, 8, 6
Rest 5 minutes
4 Rounds (2 min rest)
SMITH CLOSE GRIP BENCH
125 x 10 x 4
STEP UP TOE TAP?
I don’t know what these are called but I did the thing where you basically run in place and tap your toe on a box or step.
50 total x 4
3 Rounds
Z PRESS
bar x 21, 17, 13
PEC DECK
100 x 12, 10, 10
PRESS DOWN
100 x 16, 13, 11
Another good one. Done in 44 minutes (plus the cardio).
Fantastic, glad this way of working is feeling good and working well!
This is in reality what I’d rather be doing every time I think about training these days!
I’ve switched from coffee to beer. I have chilli on the stove and chicken in the instant pot.
This training style meets my needs instead of my wants. I think my max deadlift will be okay. I won’t be pulling 500+ anytime soon but that’s okay. 405 for 10 would be cool… and awful.
